  1. If you are thinking of moving to Dallas be prepared for weird weather. Good areas around Dallas would be Cedar Hill, Midlothian, Duncanville, and Fort Worth which is smaller and quieter than Dallas.

Dallas is a good city to live in, lots of space and hardly ever congested. Go for it!!!!

  2. The answer could be very different based upon your family situation, where you will work, how far you want to drive, whether you need public transportation and so on.  One very big thing to know about Dallas is that it is in the middle of a prairie and very far from any natural resources worth much.    If you use the ocean and mountains in California, you will be disappointed on what there is to do in D.

  3. Richardson or Plano.

  4. Mostly stay away from south east Dallas.  Pretty rough area.  North and far north Dallas have plenty of great communities.

  5. It's just another american city. It's hot, but it's not that different as far as crime, pollution, drugs, and all that stuff go.

The traffic can be pretty bad at rush hour but I'm pretty sure you've seen worse in California :)

I recomment living in Frisco or Plano. Amazing suburbs. Stay away from the south or east side-- they're not exactly family friendly..

It's fairly easy to commute to Dallas from any suburb. But I really love Frisco and Plano. Haha. Good luck on your move :)

  6. After reading the answers you've gotten you must be totally confused about Dallas.  I don't think it's quite as good as TX2step makes it sound, but it is not as bad as some of the the others seem to think either.

Granted you can't snow ski and surf in Dallas, but I think you realize that.  The economy is still pretty good, there is no state income tax in Texas, every large city has crime and homeless people, homes are much cheaper than in California, summers may be hotter and winters colder than you're used to, but all in all it's not a bad place to live.

Dallas is more cosmopolitan than Ft Worth.  The northern suburbs of Dallas (Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Flower Mound, Coppell) are newer and more upscale.  There isn't public transportation in all suburbs if that is an issue for you, so watch where you move to. If you're into sports the Metroplex has pro football, basketball, baseball, & hockey, as well as NASCAR  and horse racing.

As with most things it would be a trade off.  It just depends on what's important to you. If you decide to come -- Welcome.

  7. We moved from Southern California over a year ago, and it was the best move we ever made!  Lived all over the LA area over 40 years:) ... Definitely go to a north Dallas suburb.  The houses are beautiful, and less than 1/2 the price of California, but 10x the quality!  There's virtually no crime in the north suburbs (Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, Lucas, Fairview);  NO graffiti at all;  NO homeless people begging at every freeway onramp.  The cost of everything is cheaper here; and the skies are big, blue and CLEAN.  People think the traffic is bad here, but I've seen worse on the 91 freeway at 2 am:)  .... The summer weather is actually pretty darn close to So.Cal, especially inland.  Yes, it's hot, but not terribly humid, and there's a breeze.  It's cooler in the winter (40's-60's), and we had 2 days of snow last year (but it melted by the afternoon).  The thunderstorms are pretty awesome, and the winds are strong (but they don't suck moisture out of the air like the summer Santa Ana winds).......

  8. I hate Dallas. I have lived here for three years, and I am looking to move to Oregon. The landscape is always brown and dried up, it's too hot in the summer to go outside and do anything with the heat advisories, there are TONS of homeless people, and a high crime rate.

Dallas looks like someone took a ton of concrete and made the whole city with that foundation, then strategically placed trees where they "should go". It's an urban jungle that I do not enjoy. It's a dangerous city. I can't imagine moving here from California. Maybe you should check out Austin, Texas.
