hi there I am thinking about studying for the PDA teaching assistant course at college before going onto to get a job in this area.

Has anyone done this course and is it any good?

can u normally get a job from this level of study?

what are the progression routes?

  1. you don't need qualifications to become a teaching assistant. any good school will allow you to train on the job, and will give you opportunities for career development, such as courses.

    you're better off getting a job at a local school, maybe even try doing voluntary reading in the afternoons.

    in terms of progression, you can become a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, which means you get a bit more money and can cover lessons when the teachers are out on courses etc.


  2. If I were you I would get a classroom post first and then train on the job. Ask for a voluntary position even because it is about who recalls you being a fab assistant rather than the fact that you can recite the theory.
