Question:

I'm thinking about buying a used car, any advice?

So I’m buying a used car, leaning toward an Audi (a4) or a Saab 9-5. I’m looking to spend around 7-10 grand. I know that both of these cars are a little expensive as far as maintenance but I’m willing to pay 100 for an oil change on a car I really enjoy to drive. My ideal car would have under 80k miles and be 5-8yrs old. I know that I’d need to look into things (i.e. timing belt…etc) with the amount of miles the car will have in it but what else should I watch out for? Or, if you have any comparable options (A car that is fun to drive and unique) they would be greatly appreciated as well. I plan on driving the car for about 1-3 years. Thanks.

  1. I'm an older guy, so cars for me need to be secure and reliable.  the fun wears out pretty quickly when you're in the shop every other day.  With used cars, there are no guarantees, however, I would stay away from the higher end cars, they are not only expensive to repair, they are also high on insurance costs.

In Canada, you can not buy a used Audi a4 for 7-10 grand with under 80k's unless they rolled back the mileage gage, or you have connections in the automotive industry, in which case, they would point you in the right direction.

speaking from experience, I have owned many cars in my time.  I would stick to the Japanese cars.  The new Honda civics are quite nice and fun to drive.  I'm sure you could pick one up with a few years on it for much less than the Audi.. good luck in your search

  2. Get a Hond Civic they are the best selling cars in the world.
