I'm 16 and I was offered a job that pays a lot! And I was thinking I don't really need a diploma, what's it going to do for me? get me a job? well i got a job that pays me 10$ and hour right now and if I work fulltime, they will give me an extra 1$ an hour that's a 10% increase! So I'm seriously thinking about taking that job. You guys have any reasons I shouldn't or should?

  1. 11  dollars an hour is not enough to live on. Sit down at look at rent and food for a month and you would see that you would be in the whole every month. What would happen if you lost ur job. First you wouldn't have a high school diploma or a GED so therefore you would have a hard time getting another job. It is getting to the point that you are going to have to a high school education to work at McDonald's.

  2. Don't.

High school REALLY isn't that hard. You don't seem to be that stupid. If you can't handle the courseload (I don't know, you didn't say you couldn't) at least take blowoff classes to get the diploma. 10 bucks an hour is NOTHING.

  3. wow, youre stupid. you really think that $11/ hour is going to support you for the rest of your life?? hahaha wow, dummy, stay in school. do you know how much rent is for a house? or car payment? or light bill? or water bill? or insurance? or anything at all?? obviously you dont or you would know better than to even THINK about dropping out. dont be worthless forever, stay in school

  4. ok stay in school you may have a job now but what if you get sick or you can't go to work then your job fires you then what today you have to have aleast a college educaion to survie dropping out will not help you  i know some older kids who done what you want to do and they now live with ther parents at 29 because they can't live on their own one of them is g*y and got aids lost his job andn ow lives with his mom !!

  5. haha i made 10$ an hour and went to school everyday, and i never considered that to be alot of money and i knew that i wouldn't be happy making that for the rest of my life,

wow, what a loser, bad choice buddy, i would rethink your decision because it will be the biggest mistake of your life, Education is a privilege and you should use it to your advantage

  6. Tell them that if they really want you they'ed wait t'ill you finished school!!! Because what happens if you get fired (not that I think you will), or if the whole buissness fails? OUY'd have a deploma to help you find another job!!!!!

    Good luck!

  7. My dear young man...

Let an experienced..."old lady" tell you ...the "facts of life"....I sure CAN understand you're "temptation" on earning "your OWN $$$$ " at present...Sure, it sounds..."good" to you ..."at first sight"........- B U T -...be aware, that "these days" it's a PRIORITY to get : proper education in order to...succeed ...in "the LONG-RUN" !!! You see, honey...the demands are rising HIGHER ..and...H I G H E R ...these days, that for example: with a high-school-diploma there is hardly NO chance to receive a decent job !!! Even, if you think, the 11$/hr. will "cover" your needs at "the moment"...-this may be the case, BUT: you have to concider ....your life on a : LONG-TERM-BASIS...-Who knbows, what may "occur" in the future...-your "grandma's hands" will NOIT be there..."forever"...-you get my point????

You should..."invest" in : YOURSELF right now, when you're still young. So...my honest & sincere advice: PLEASE finish school & continue your education, because life is going to demand sooooooo much MORE in the future, that one NEEDS a proper education to COMPEAT with "life's demands"!!! And... besides...WHO can guarantee you, that you'll keep this "job" on a long-term - basis ??? Just think...if you are in a position...."one day"..., where you'll have the responsibility to support..."a family"...-do you really think, that 11$/hr. are ENOUGH to support a "wife & child"???? NO WAY, baby !!!!

I motivate you with my "plea" to continue your education..PLEASE !!! Later on, you'll be glad you did, I'm sure !!! Wishing you the courage to complete your education & secure your future endeavors...Greetings from Germany & all my love & care.... Annette***

  8. Stay in school.

What happens if you want to switch jobs? Or you lose the job you get?

And like the person above me said, $11 isn't anything these days.

  9. dont drop out. ok. one day when ur older, ur gonna wish u stayed in school, one day ur gonna have kids and a wife, and ur gonna be stuck in ur grandmas basement. im sorry thats pittiful. have a great day, i feel sorry for u. you are in my prayers. :(

  10. dude! i mean right now you're saying this job pays you well but what if you get fired for whatever reason. although your grandma allowed you to use her basement wouldn't you prefer to have your own place and all that jazz be independent?? you only have a few more years you could wait couldn't you?? but i definitely wouldn't recommend to drop out! but it's your choice..

  11. Stay in school get a diploma and get paid way more then eleven dollars an hour...take the job as a part time job and save up for college.

  12. You're being an idiot by the time you're an adult 11 dollars an hour wouldn't buy you a gallon of gas. Stay in school and no offense but your grandma isn't going to live forever and nowadays without a diploma you won't get a good job

  13. I'm sorry to break it to u, but a $10/hour job isn't very good. Lets say you work a full 40 hour week. Your only aking about $20,000 a year, and after taxes, and everything ull only bring home like 9,000-10,000. Even with $11/hour. Its only an extra 1,000. s***w ur plan, you need to stay in school.

  14. Please stay in school.  My boyfriend dropped out when he was 16 and regrets his decision everyday!

  15. no, you are not set for life, you r grandmother will die at some point. then, at 11 dollars an hour you are not earning enough to live. plus, eventually you Will need a better job, therefor requiring a diploma. plus, a diploma is actually better than a GED and colleges and employers are more likely to take the person w/ the diploma over a GED. Finally, while this job may take a school GED kid full time, most places won't.

  16. that job might be good for you right now, but what if it fails or you get fired or laid off.  that is not a good idea at all.  you're only thinking in the present.  in the future, you might get married and have kids and if you don't even have a high school diploma you won't be able to support anyone and you'll end up homeless.  Dropping out, is the dumbest thing you do.  By the way, I'm sixteen too, and I have a job that pays $16 an hour, so your job isn't that great for a lifetime.

  17. Stay in school. I dropped out of school because I was bullied and I really wish that when I could walk across the stage next year and get a diploma instead I'm getting a GED "good enough diploma". The girls who were bullying me  would not stop after the principal stepped in and the superintendent stepped in. The guidance teacher talked to their parents as well as them together and alone. Nothing stopped it!! The parents and kids said it was no big deal. In the long run I am getting ahead, I'll start college before them... but I want a real high school diploma.

  18. $10 an hour aint nothing anymore. I think you should stay in school. Getting the diploma is for more than getting a job. It tells everybody that you didnt give up. You can be offered a lot more with a diploma and even more with a college degree. Your only 16 you most likely wont keep the job forever, so when you quit or get fired then your screwed. You need that diploma you need that education. Please stay in school.

  19. Wow $11/ hr pays nothing! They also take taxes from you. A month before taxes you will be making $1760 that's even less with taxes. With rent, car payment, and bills you will be left with no money. You need to stay in school because you are ovbiously very ignorant. People who have a four year degree on average bring home about $1000 a week! You need to get yourself an education, that job won't last forever but an education will.

  20. You are also very foolish and stupid to be contemplating such a thing- a college degree is necessity in this economy, and $10 an hour isn't much of a salary and won't take you very far. $10 an hour is about $ 400 a week before taxes, or about $1,600 a month, again before taxes. You need to at least get your high school diploma, pal- or the day will come when you will LOSE this job and will not be able to find another one because you have no education or applicable work experience to speak of. How are you going to pay for food, rent, gas, utility bills ( that means things like cable tv bills, cell phone bills, internet service provider bills, electric and gas bills) health insurance ( you didn't mention whether or not this job you've been offered provides any benefits, such as health coverage or sick leave, not to mention vacation time) car insurance and upkeep, clothing( most companies have dress codes which they expect their workers to abide by, which means you have to dress the part or face possible dismissal) transportation costs if you elect to join a carpool, and the like??? ALL OF THESE THINGS COST A LOT OF MONEY, PAL, and you are going to be lucky to earn enough to make ends meet, LET ALONE save money for things like college, your retirement, and so you can buy a home of your own one day.

You are 16- that means you are still a minor child in the eyes of the law. You can't sign contracts, get credit, vote, drink, smoke or purchase tobacco, and most states have graduated licensing programs for 16 year old drivers now, which means that the amount of driving you can do is limited. You can't even buy a car yet, because you aren't old enough to do it or to get a loan to finance it with. Know what all this means, pal?? IT MEANS YOU CAN'T LIVE ON YOUR OWN, MUCH LESS SUPPORT YOURSELF, at least not yet !!! As for your grandma, she's not going allow you to crash at her place forever, pal. The world doesn't OWE YOU, OR ANYONE ELSE, a LIVING, and it's high time you understood this.

You need to stay in school, graduate, and get your diploma, or there may come a day when you end up flipping burgers at Mickey D's for $5 an hour, WITHOUT BENEFITS- and then what are you going to do??? You want to spend the rest of your life like that? Then go ahead and drop out of school. But be warned- there are no free rides in life. Even welfare isn't free, not any more. There are strict time limits on benefits from it, and you have to go out and go to work after a certain time, or it's bye bye welfare checks. I wouldn't count on being allowed to live at grandma's house forever either- one of these days, she's going put her foot down and throw you out on your butt, if she's smart- because she's already raised her family, and you are nothing but a freeloader and a drain on her. Most elderly people need HELP, not someone who is just there to hang out and cause trouble.

You need to grow up some, and rethink what you are about to do. Talk to someone who's already a dropout, and ask if they had it easy or not- chances are, they'll tell you to stay in school, because life as a dropout tends to SUCK. Enough said.

  21. h**l no, you better not!

  22. dude stay in school, you will regret it, once u get bored of that job

  23. $10 an hour is not that much when you think about all the taxes that will be taken out and the rise of prices in the economy.  I am sure you can find something just as good when you finish high school.  The stupidest thing you could do right now is drop out.  What happens if you lose this job?  A lot of places want you to have your diploma before they employ you.  You should seriously think about going into college as well.
