I'm thinking about getting a homeschooling program from ACE Ministries. Has anyone used it?

I'd like to know if you liked it/hated it? And if you think it's worth the money? Any other program that you would strongly recommend? THANKS!

  1. We found it boring. My daughter used it at the beginning of this year for third grade. She found it dull and simple. The reader she was using was about first grade level (she reads on a fourth). It's a cheap program in price and quality.

  2. im using that program rite now. its kinda boring. u learn a lot of scriptures and they do not teach evolution. i pretty much decided the subjects i wanted to take, but the paces seem kinda childish. my friend is also home schooled and she uses Penn Foster. she likes it a lot, and i have heard that Abecca/Abeka is rly good as well.

  3. Here's a homeschool student's opinion:

I used ACE from first grade through 9th grade.

it is a good curriculum, if you are satisified with a standard so-so education. I hated ACE because I thought it was stupid (i.e. the little comics where the kids are always perfect.) and I begged my parents to let me use a different curriculum. I think their English was pretty good, I'm not sure about Math, I have always had a hard time with ACE Math.

Their spelling is pretty good, I hated Science & Social Studies.

In my 10th grade year my parents changed my curriculum to include Saxon Math (I LOVE it, the best math EVER) Abeka Science (Very good, challenging) and a LOT of textbooks from the 1900's.

I believe I'm getting a better education than my peers, because I am learning not just to complete my work, and go through the PACE's, but to enjoy it. I know and understand where I came from, why I'm here, and where I'm going through History, I can understand Science and Math so much better, and I am learning a lot in English. Anyway, I've rambled on.

I would strongly recommend Abeka. It is a mentally challenging program and everyone I've seen use it has really well, in college..etc..

I would also strongly reccomend A2 ( A squared). This is the curriculum we use.

    I can't say enough about.

Honestly it all comes down to how much time you want to spend, and the quality education you want to give your child.

  4. i use it now it is ok and the people are right the comics are kinda cheesy. It is not that easy the math is above average. When i was doing Algebra i had to get help from my pastor who has PHD in Math and he said that the math was advanced.  I am pentecostal so the not teaching evolution thing is ok with me. My parents buy me videos from the history channel and NatGeo. I love history so i am always studying about something in history. The science is pretty good. The History is good. The electives  are ok. I chose Health and Music this year. I am doing Algebra 2 this year(I am in 10th). Next year i will be going trig and then in 12th calculus. I am doing spanish this year from rosetta stone. I really like it but i don't think it is for everyone. Why not trying the placement test on their website.

  5. I did not like ACE or Alpha &Omega.    I really wanted them to work for me but I just had to throw them out.  What a waste of money.  I only know of one family who actually liked ACE.   One HS mom learned from it herself but uses ABEKA for her kids because she thinks the way they format ACE means that she never retained any of the information.

My kids thought it was way too juvenile, and I thought that  the facts presented were seriously flawed.

I have never seen ABEKA, but I do know of  people who really love it.

If I was starting again, I would probably use Sonlight.

  6. I have seen ACE and, for lack of a better description (not putting down those who choose it, it's JMO), it's "cheesy".

When my son was 4 yrs old, he took the placement tests and he tested into 12th grade, so I figured it was pretty easy.  I've looked it over at HS conventions since then and I'm convinced it's several years behind what I use.  I don't know how in the world they use the word "Accellerated" in the title!

I would look into Alpha-Omega's Lifepacs for a similar program.
