  1. well we were going to get a turtle once, but unless u have the time, then it no use. they are not the most playfull animals, and u do need to spend time on cleaning their tank.

turtles can cost $99--$6000! depending on the type and where u live.

they can live in big tanks if they are small but if thaey are big or grown big ur going to need a pond.

oh, and they just swim round i guess.

    hope that helps!:-)

  2. Dont get a turtle. Bad idea. I got one and it was boring and high maintenance and always tried to bite me. He died of pneumonia after about a year.

    Anyway, to answer your questions...

    1) Mine was 200 dollars (cage included)

    2) they live in a large tank with lots of water and a little thing to float on if they get tired of the water

    3)Yes

    4) You can feed them little turtle pellets you buy at the store, or little feeder goldfish. I tried giving mine goldfish but he didn't eat them so i ended up with giant goldfish living in my tank (the fish ate the turtle food and grew supersize!)

5)Yeah pretty much. They sit on their log or float in the water. Thats about it.

They need a large cage, very hard to clean, very expensive, very boring, got sick easily. It might have been one of my worst pets ever, and iv had A LOT of pets.

  3. Well, im not sure how much they cost, or what you mean by where do they live, but Yes, you put them in a tank with a rock and shallow water, but this also depends on what type of turtle you get. You can get plankton to feed them, but again, it all depends on what type. No, they swim around and so stuff, and you can pick some of them up as well. But sometimes, turtles maybe scared and keep running away. Its just their nature.

  4. well if you are looking to get a red eared slider ,which are very common

they require a tank of 5-10 gallons for just 1

a light,an a certain bulb for vitmans an cacuilm, turtle water dechlorinator,so when u clean the tank or add water,a rock so they can sit on,an gravel,an a filter would be about a little under an possibly a heater,if it gets cold in your house they like 68-76 degrees faren, is ok

    a litttle under 100$

  5. Awww I personally

    love love love animals.

Well it depends on the type of turtle

I got this little turtle about 4 years ago

    it cost 15 dollars

    the tank 20.

    and food 5?

But the turtle just sat there and everyday i would pick it up and like walk it around the tank an i would take it outside but my turtle just sat there for its short 2 month life of living with me was very depressing i can amagin an i don't think it's anything i did.

Even though i love animals i will never get another turtle because i wouldn't want another one to have such a sad life :((

but personally i think they're adorable.

    lol

i dunno if it was just my turtle or maybe they're all like this but i couldnt amagin they are like that.

    BUT

    anyways.

i would research it a little.

    i hoped this helped.

the best of luck to you

    and your turle

    :))

  6. they just sit there

    get a dog! :)

  7. turtles are not easy pets, no a pet i would recommend to people because of there high start up cost. You will spend at least $400 on set up. Most turtles need anywhere from a 55 to 100 gallon tank, they also need a UVB bulb, they need a heat bulb, and if it is a water turtle a huge filter. If you are ok with the start up cost then you need to decide what kind of turtle you want. Land turtles will eat mostly greens and plant matter were water turtles eat fish, pellets, and pant matter too. No they don`t just sit there, they move around, eat, and bask. When you get him out he may not come out of his shell because he is scared and views you as a predator, but after some time they start to come out of the Shell more radially. They do carry salmonella and can give it to human if you don`t wash your hands after handling him or cleaning his cage, but with proper prevention the risk is low.

  8. dooo it not a turtke though get turtouse much cuter and they eat lettace and anything u make them and yes u put then in a tank and there sooo kool

  9. my mate has 1 and all i know is you put them in a tank with a light heater thing and they walk about quite a bit

  10. to keep things short i dont recommend it

  11. Bear with me as this may seem long-winded, but at least it's informative. One thing that you need to think about first off is whether you want a turtle or a tortoise. Turtles are the swimming ones, the ones that require a tank full of water. Keep in mind turtles tank can stink really badly if not cleaned regularly and cleaning is like cleaning a fish tank. Tortoise not only do not swim, they sink like rocks and would drown if submersed in water. Which makes for easier clean up in the long run for a tortoise tank. I have a Sulcata tortoise, the 2nd or 3rd (depending on what site you are at) largest kind on Earth. They grow to be 3 feet long and weigh around 200 lbs. (give OR take a few). They live to be 80 years old as well!  So the following information is what I know from having the Sulcata!  Keep in mind there are other types of tortoises out there that do not get anywhere as big as the Sulcata. The Russian Tortoise only gets to be one foot long at the biggest!

    1. I paid $75 for the baby tortoise, $20 for the used tank, under $5 per bag of sand for the tank (up to 2 bags now), $8 for infrared "night time" light at PetCo, $14-$16 for UV bulb (daytime), $9-$14 for each clamp-like lamp for heat (I have two, one for each light), I buy romaine lettuce, spinach, and cactus leaf from the local grocery store for food. I also take her outside to munch on grass and get some natural UV rays from the sun (but only on days that are warm enough).

    2.  Most turtles and tortoises live in big glass tanks. Mine lives in a 55 gallon glass tank right now, but within the year I will buy one of those plastic kiddie wading pools and just pour sand in it. Some live on Turtle Tables, specially built to be open "enclosures" that have high sides so that you can look down on the turtle but they can't get out. Some roam the house, others yet live outside. If you have yours live outside I would suggest a shed or a dog house with a heat source in it like a lamp or a pig blanket (a heated one).

    3. What they eat depends on what type you get. A lot of them can survive on turtle pellets bought at the pet store. I like giving mine the veggies though. She goes nuts for red fruits and veggies!

    4. I would definitely say that they do not just sit around. When I got mine I was shocked at not only how much she moved about but at how fast she could move about. Mine will walk all over the house and check stuff out. When I take her outside ALL the little kids just love watching her and holding her. She runs around the yard and eats the grass. When I tap on the side of her tank she takes off like a bat outta, you know! Sulcata's learn their names and their owner's voice (fromw hat I've read) and mine has at least learned that my voice brings food. She wakes up to my voice and heads straight to her food dish.

If there is anything that I missed or any other questions you may have thought of please email me at taciturntalker@yahoo.com. If you decide to get one let me know what kind and I can get specific information for you regarding that breed!  I'm here to help!  Happy Herping!

  12. Turtle turtle!

and i have no idea.  sorry

  13. well i can't answer all of your questions until you decide which kind of turtle you are planning to get.

  14. this article might help, it helped me decide when i wanted one,, i still want one though :P

    http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?...

  15. don't get a turtle i was about 2 get one they have a lot of germs

  16. You must name your turtle, "Mertle Turtle" and thats about all I know about them!

  17. I just got a yellow bellied slider yesterday.

    I loooooove him! He amazinggg(:

Turtles take much time, care, and attention.

They're very expensive but well worth it in the long run if you're dedicated to having a turtle.

If you are like me and have been excited about having/getting one, they will make great pets that can last for decades.

  18. I believe that You cant buy a turtle unless you buy a "kit" ( i know you cant in OHIO) but they are prtty expensive becaue you have to buy the kit (which is basically sayingg you are using it for studying)

you keep turtles in a pretty big tank full of water but you want to buy a thing that suctions to the side of the tank so they can sit and rest on it. you also need a lamp for heat and the light helps thm get nice color to their shell. and to grow.

turtles eat goldfish, guppies, any fish. they can be big the turtle's jaw can break them apart very easy.

the turtles love to swim, and be held. you cn feed it turtle pellets by hand once they get to know you. thats pretty cool. my turtle used to play with my cat through the glass.

but turtles are very fun and nice pets to have. just get a few algea eaters to help keep your tank clean. we even had snails and bigger fish in with it.

just make sure that when your done handling him you wash ur hands. i suggest puttin instant hand sanitizer right by the tank.

  19. OK turtles, people always underestimate them.

    I'll make it short first.

In Australia, they are about $1000 ea. You have to have a reptile license (the pet shop will check) and yes it cost money and wating time to apply. They have to have an aquarium tank, which is very costly. It must be big enough for the turtle to have sufficiet space for swimming and basking, for most turtles, you have to have part water and land, like this http://www.unc.edu/~dtkirkpa/stuff/tank1...

Its more beneficial to have a couple of turtles too. The tank also needs substrate, lamps, filters, aerators, water chemicals etc. Its costly, you also have to be able to afford vet checkups in case something happens. Having a turtle can easily cost you over $2000 au dollars. They are quite nice pets, if you want them to be tame, you should spend a bit of time daily with them, they have tendacy's to bite or nip when feeling scared or threatened.

You can feed them pellets, but its nice to feed them fresh food such as blood worms, maggots etc. These can be bought at petshops.

They will swim around and eat stuff and sleep, thats why you should get at least two, the poor thing will be bored and lonely!

I hope this helps, I wasn't trying to discourage you but you need to know the facts first :)

  20. There are different places you can get turtles. There are pet shops and blackmarkets. The cost depends on what kind of turtles youre getting and interested in. You should go to pet stores and scout out and ask about different types of turtles. Their cost, again, depends on what kind of turtles youre. For my turtles, i built a habitat for them in a tank. Half of it is water the other half is a rock that is above water. If youre looking for a pet that is energetic and fun to watch, turtles arent the pet your looking for. The only things turtles do is sit lay on their rock and take in sunlight. Occasionally they would go for a swim, this is when they become really dry and need water badly.
