  1. I had a friend who moved to Bridgewater from the Midlands, and I was dead jealous that she was moving to gorgeous Somerset. However, when I visited her, I discovered an awful poverty stricken council estate. (I think it was called the King Harry estate, or something similar) There was more deprivation there than most parts of Birmingham, and I was glad to get back home. Be careful which part you move to, as some parts are very rough.

I ended up moving to a picturesque village in Cornwall, and my friend is now jealous of me.

  2. people in Somerset are very warm and very friendly the most friendly people in England

  3. Bridgwater town is a varied mix of properties and areas. the Hamp estate is a definite place not to live. Most other areas range from reasonable to nice. The town is growing rapidly with a reasonable shopping centre and all major supermarkets are represented there. If you are moving, try for one of the new estates being built on the town outskirts (details from estate agents). There are a host of small villages close by all with nice accommodation, although personally I think they are overpriced. The schools are of average standard. There are many sports clubs catering for young boys as well as an active Sea Cadets for aspiring mariners! Bridgwater carnival takes place every year and is great fun although it brings the town to a complete halt for one day, followed by the Bridgwater Fair. Like a lot of towns, it can get a bit rough during the late evening when the clubs are turning out, but that is easily avoided. Excellent transport links with motorway close by, Exmoor close by, intercity trains, National express coaches, local buses etc. Not actuall my favourit town (I lived 5 miles outside) but I have a lot of friends there who love the place.

  4. Sorry I'm laughing at the other answers. I live on Hamp estate and it is one of the most friendliest places to live in Bridgwater. Yes it is a council estate, but it is not nearly as bad as Sydenham where there is a massive drug problem. I used to work in a Kebab shop doing the deliveries and it was guaranteed there would be a police car somewhere on sydenham!!!

    Right, here we go.

Best and most expensive area is Wembdon, closely followed by Durleigh. I have lived in both areas and would say that although the house in Durleigh was better the overall area of Wembdon was nicer. It actually classifies itself as a village. there is a variety of houses from 3 bed semi's to sprawling 6/7 mansions!

There are also lots of other estates throughout Bridgwater, notably 'Newtown/Kendale road' area, Chilton Trinity, Bridge Estate, Bower Manor and of course the new Trinity gate area.

Schools, we have 4 main secondary schools, the one on Hamp estate being awarded the title of 'Science College'.

Bridgwater College is the best in the west and does absolutely anything from hairdressing to bricklaying, A levels to degrees. Also there is the Somerset College of Art and Technology in Taunton, 10 minutes up the motorway.

all in all people are pretty friendly and there is a large variety of restaurants and take aways in the town. also a cinema, football clubs, YMCA, various youth organisations etc, so there will be plenty for you and the boys to do.

We are in close proximity to Taunton, Minehead, Burnham-on-sea, Brean, Weston-super-mare, Bristol and the Forest Trail on the Quantocks. Crealy Adventure park is less than an hour away and Crickets st Thomas is not that far either.

If you need to know anything else then mail me, I'll be glad to help
