and i'm not sure where to go. I want to go to England or Australia but some people have told me that its better to go to a country that doesn't speak English so that you learn a new language in the process. Do you think it would still be worth it if I went to a country that spoke English?

  1. It really depends on what your personal goals are in terms of studying abroad.

It is definitely "worth it" to go to a country that speaks English. Even though they may be speaking the same language as you, there will be cultural and historical differences, and the chance to learn and explore a new continent. You will be amazed at how different things can be on another continent, even when they are speaking the same language!

If one of your goals is to learn a new language, then yes, it would be best for you to study abroad in a non-English-speaking country. This does NOT mean you would have to take all your courses in that language. There are lots of university programs in non-English-speaking countries that teach courses in English. For instance, there are several U.S.-based universities in foreign countries, where the credit is easily transferrable back to a U.S. university. Here are a couple of examples:

The most important thing for you to decide is which country you really want to explore. When you've narrowed it down to one country or a few countries, then you can look for college programs. You can go here: http://www.studyabroaddirectory.com/sear... and do customized searches based on your preferences -- where you want to go, how long, what you want to study.

Good luck! Studying abroad is an amazing experience and you should absolutely do it if you can.

  2. It would be better to go to some country which speaks english. Learning a new language is interesting but only if u are going to settle down in that place. If u just goto some place so that u can learn a new language, it doesnt make sense. You can goto England or Australia as both are good places to study. If u look at it in an economic way, I would suggest Australia cos it is cheaper than UK. Select a uni and goto it so that u can get some good courses and become a good professional. If u want to learn some language, u can take it up while studying in the uni. That is far more reasonable.

Hope it helps. All the best..!

  3. Your question is too vague as you don't indicate what some of your interests are.  Here are two links to learn more.

I recommend going to a country that English is perhaps its secondary language like Mexico, Spain, France, etc.

Do you speak another language?  Would you stay with a host family?  Would you be doing volunteer work?

  4. a friend of mine went to slovakia recently, for a whole school year, and now she speaks fluent slovokian, its crazy.

yeah, she studied a little bit ahead of time, but she honestly thinks she got way more out of it than she would have if she had gone to an english speaking country.

  5. It's a much better experience if you go somewhere that doesn't speak english. I don't think the exchange experience would be as worth it if you went to a english speaking country.

  6. You would need to have some language of the country ahead of time--it's hard to learn "on the job."  England, Ireland, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore all have English language schools.  Really depends on your ability to learn new languages, but I feel somewhat isolated in France since I am not proficient in French.
