  1. For Florida market, if you look at the 3 numbers on Kelly's for trade in, more than likely the bottom one is what we can buy that car for at auction. Had 2004 Trailblazer this weekend base model with over 100k miles. Nice truck, ran nice, cold air, is selling for 3500-3900 at dealer auctions. Was priced about 30,000 brand new :(

Had another lady in a truck that she was 11,000 upside down in, my manager recognized her from 6 months ago and when she tried to work a deal 6 months ago she was about 6k upside down. Truck values have plummetted.

Hope you own yours, but be prepared for the initial shock.

    Good Luck!

  2. The official trade in value that most dealers use is Kelley's Blue book, www.kbb.com

  3. edmunds.com

  4. Incorrect. Kelley Blue Book is NOT the preferred appraisal guide used by dealer's.

You can go to Kelley's site, as well as NADA Guides, and edmunds.com. -- Take an average of the three (and be VERY honest in your appraisal, don't rate your car as "excellent" when you know it's not) and use that average as a guide. It will NOT be gospel and a dealer may or may NOT be around that figure based on your local market conditions on your vehicle.

Be prepared to take a bath on the SUV, especially if you've only been paying on it a short time (3 years or less). If you find yourself in the position of owing way more than your vehicle brings in trade, you then need to ask yourself if the trade is worth it. Is it worth paying thousands to dig yourself out of a negative equity hole to save gas, when it might take you years to make up that difference in fuel savings?

Don't "panic trade". There's quite a bit of that going on right now. Dealers are NOT giving top-dollar for SUVs, especially at $4 a gallon.

  5. www.kbb.com

you might want to buy a Subaru Outback, Forester, or Tribeca. All offer great reliability, All Wheel Drive, Safety, Power, and Fuel efficiency

p.s. the EPA changed the way they test gas mileage for 08's and on, so the mileage you will get should be higher

  6. I second the Subaru...go with the Forester.

It will be about as versatile as a big SUV, but with better handling and much better mileage
