Question:

I'm thinking i have a virus any thoughts

i'm running windows vista, and i ran a full factory recovery last night. after i ran it i noticed i had zero program files on my hard drive, so i went to run "full factory recovery again. i restarted pressed f8 and the prompt screen came up and i clicked on "repair my computer" but then it goes directly to my desktop. i even tryed the install cd that came with my pc. what do i do to fix this? if someone can tell me step by step of how 2 repair this problem, i'll be very grateful and will vote for them 4 best answer, on whatever question they post on. obviously i'm desperate 2 fix this problem so please help.

  1. Well, I can with confidence that this has nothing to do with a virus.

    If you're using the installation/recovery CDs that contain the operating system *and* programs that came with your PC, then that should do it. Pressing F8 and selecting "Repair my computer" in the Advanced Boot Options screen won't work unless you already have a recovery partition on your drive. If you don't have a recovery partition, then Windows will boot up just as it normally does (which it's doing in your case).

    I know when I bought my current PC it came only with the Operating System Recovery CD. The CD did not contain the programs that came pre-installed on my PC. I had to call the manufacturer and have them send me the full recovery DVD - that is, the DVD with that contained both the operating system and programs. Sounds like you may be having the same problem. I think your best bet would be to call the manufacturer for support.
