  1. In most instances the answer to that would be no, however I think some states do require some form of qualification. I provided a link below for you to check on your home state's laws and requirements.

Likewise, some states have more rigorous requirements for curriculum than others. That sort of information can be found at the link below as well. If you will be following a state's preferred course of study, then textbooks and other items can be purchased at various places such as Ebay, ECampus or direct from textbook sellers such as McDougal Littel. If you intend on (and your state allows) more freedom in the education, then you can use various websites for subjects you wish your daughter to learn, hands on activities, life experience, etc. There really is no limit to what can be done :) .

Some good articles containing tips on home schooling can be found within other links below. Good luck!  I've home schooled my daughter for three years (she is currently 14) and she and I love it!

  2. The State you live in is going to determine the answer to your question and that means you will need to go to www.hslda.org ( Homeschool Legal Defense Assoc). Florida is very easy,Virginia requires you to hold at least a High School Diploma but other than that is pretty simple, Alabama requires a cover school.

Going to hslda is going to give you the rules for every State in the USA.

There are lots of groups on yahoo for you to join for support and some have meetups at local parks and do field trips. There are also lots of websites where you can download games and worksheets, crafts, science...that just require a little google on your part.

You'll be fine and welcome to the wonderful world of homeschooling.
