Does anybody have one or has anybody fired one? What did you think? Can somebody point me to a good review online? Thanks

  1. They are great! Not as robust or impressive as the others in the 55x series, but quite a bit cheaper too. Like the first guy said, the main thing it's got going for it is the piston which is a far cry better than the damned direct impingement of the Stoner platform (AR series). It's really great rifle, and I would recommend it over almost any AR.

Only thing that should be noted is they are very front heavy. I would suggest handling one before you buy to see if you like how it feels.

  2. The 556 was recently tested by Guns And Weapons For Law Enforcement really loved the gun.

I handled one 2 monthes ago and thought that its just the gun that Sig would make. It resembles the AK in some ways. I like the gun. Sig has taken some of the finer points in assault weapon history, and combined them.

The 556 has a 1 in 7 rate of twist in a 16 inch cold hammered barrel. This will shoot standard 55 grain 5.56mm just fine, but really shines when shooting the 75 grain match stuff(these balistics were published in GAWFLI).

The 556 also utilizes a piston drive gas system. Hailed as the most reliable system, It is similar to those in the FAL, the H&KG3, and the AK.

The gas system also has a bleed off dial much like the FAL which comes in handy should you shoot heavy sub-sonic ammo with a suppressor(the gas outlet can be closed to allow for maximum gas to the piston).

The stock is foldable, and makes it a super compact gun in a vehicle or for CQB.

The 556 is also designed to take the Ar style mags that are so in stock

The 556 looks great and I think it will find its way into my safe real soon. Santa Clause is comming to town!!!
