A friend of mine told me to stay away from hyundai cars because they won't last long, that it might make it to 100,000 miles. Is this true? I love the look of the tiburons and I don't really like the look of other cars. I was looking for something sporty like the 1980's camaro. I'm not liking the new camaro much. Any suggestions on other vehicles if the tiburon is junk?

  1. There are so many factors to look at these days to determine what is junk, cool, or what not. The Tibs have always been as reliable as an accord. It is the same vehicle as an Elantra. Different shell. Gas mileage has always been good, but as always, one needs to ck out the vehicle good when buying a used one. I'd definitely go with a Tib as opposed to a Cam because of gas prices. I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee. MPG sucks! But at 249,000 miles on the motor and 18 MPG, not doing too bad. Plus it's paid for............

  2. Hyundais aren't bad -- just not great. Never buy a new one, though. You will lose at least 20% of it's value the minute you sign the dotted line. Find a really clean, low mileage Tiburon about three years old. You can buy it for a song and it will be as good as a new one.

P.S. -- I also like the way they look.

  3. You will notice on this forum that most people that put down Hyundai's do not or have never owned one. Most of the ones that say good things have owned one including myself. I have an 09 Sonata and I am very pleased with it and the progress Hyundai has made over the years.

Sure it looses maybe 20% when you drive it off of the lot. So does every new car. Plus, I did not pay as much for my Sonata as the  Accord cost.

  4. Run - Do not walk from the Hyundai Tiburon.  You will go through Flywheels every 26-27K miles (dual-mass flywheels - $2,000 approx. repair).  Tires every 16 -18K miles.  Not to mention the headaches.  They look great and the ride is great but they do not stand behind the product.  I have a 2003 and in my opinion it is not worth it.  My experience has been that they do not stand behind the warranty.  I currently have a breach of contract lawsuit in process.  If you do not believe me check out the Hyundai forums.  There are thousands of people that have experienced the same thing.  Do not buy the Huyndai Tiburon unless you have very deep pockets!!!

  5. Hyundais are fantastic. Since the days of independence from Mitsubishi, Hyundai developed better looks, comfort and safety features in accordance to time needs. From Hyundai Sonata to Accent, Elantra to Matrix, Santa Fe to Tucson and Getz to i10, Hyudai will never let anyone down. As a whole, any Hyundai is great, but do get ratings from UK (since UK becomes the main moderator in English for the EU automotive ratings).

  6. I have not found Hyundai cars to be junk. I have a 2003 Tiburon that I bough new and wanted to see how good it was. (and yes I can afford to junk it if not good) By its performance I bough a Azera Limited and am very pleased with it also. I took the Tiburon on a trip a few week ago that covered about all kinds of driving(3500 miles and about half of that was at 80 MPH) and temperatures and was very pleased with the car. I averaged about 27 MPG which is not bad for the V6 and a lot better than other cars with about the same size engine. People put 200 to 300 thousand miles on them and Hyundai cars are now better than before so I'd say it is hard to call them junk. People also say they don't hold their value... well just keep in mind that you paid less for the car to start with so their value will not be as a car you paid more for.

  7. I love Hyundai's and will never even think of going with anything else. I bought a new one back in Nov 2007 and haven't had any problems with it at all. Plus Hyundai's have 10 year 100,000 mile warranty.

  8. No offense but sounds like your friend doesn't know much about cars. My Hyundai has over 135k on it and seen them go past 200k. Of course the newer ones are better then the older models, not sure what year your talking about.

I'm not surprised the person with the 03 Tib had alot of problems. Like many cars, the first year of a new generation model may have bugs to work out and Hyundai did that with the Tib. 8 recalls were posted for the 03 Tib but only one since 04 meaning they did a good job rectifying the problems.

I think the Tib is a decent car but there are major differences between the 97-01 Tibs and 03-08 ones. Going by Hyundai's track record the newer ones are better by far.
