This never occurred to me until someone suggested I check. Does anyone know?

Depends on the model.

If it has no digital tuner, then you will need a converter if you plan to watch off-the-air TV.

Remember : rear projection TVs require frequent lamp replacement, so that may add to your final cost.

I would not buy a TV without seeing its picture, unless you have a money back warranty.

Even if there is you would just use a Freeview box and connect it to the tv.
