  1. i would buy it except i have direct tv,it only works on cable, you do have cable tv right?

  2. I wouldn't.  a liftetime in the electronics world is a matter of weeks.  It will be outdated very quickly.  If you have cable or sat service you can generally get one for anywhere from free-$200 (if your month to month threaten to switch providers and they will give you anything).  Most charge $5 for service so if you do the math you would need to use it for 5-6 years to make it worthwhile and by then it will be a dinosaur.

  3. Hi Tom,

It's a good buy. I had TiVo lifetime for several years on a series 2 box. Last year they let me transfer my lifetime to a series 3 HD box. I love it!

I am getting another box because they have finally offered the lifetime again as you know.

If your TiVo breaks down you can have it repaired and keep your lifetime.

  4. Without lifetime service it is $299. Service is $12.95/mo. It will take 2 years to break even. I've had TiVo for 3 years and I still think it is the best. I wish I had bought lifetime service when it was available.
