I'm not a pro at computers so I'd like pros and cons of Dell or this actual model. Thanks.

P.S. I'm a college student so I will be mostly using it for long nights of homework, web surfing, video chat using msn messenger or skype, email, i like to take a lot of pictures so editing pics is good, downloading music to my ipod, etc..

Does this laptop suit my needs? Is dell a good brand?

Please and Thank you!

  1. As long as you aren't a gamer that should do (although I'd extend the warranty to 3 years myself, repairs out of warranty with laptops do tend to be pretty expensive).

Everything except 3D games should run pretty well on that (and you have given yourself a lot of storage space).

  2. A Mac would be much better. It meets your needs, and you'll be much happier. Trust me. I couldn't be happier with mine.

  3. Looks like this laptop will met your needs. You are not really doing anything heavy duty like video editing or gaming. Can I suggest something after the 30 day trial of Mcaffe suite, which is a hog on your computer. Esset NOD32 is a light weight anti virus, for anti spyware you can get Microsoft Defender and Lava soft's Ad-aware which are both free. Also get a router which works as a hardware firewall, software firewalls are more intrusive than helpful and if you are going to be taking lots of pictures may I suggest an external hard drive. There are usally 320GB external drives for about $150. This laptop will be cheaper than an apple laptop and will meet your school needs. Good Luck!

  4. If you are a hard user and like your system to be durable Dell is the way to go. For your needs this systems seems good enough. If you want a little chic you can try hp or sony but being safe Dell. Also their customer support is best and usually approachable.

My friend exchanged her computer once when there was a problem and they paid the shipping all the times !

  5. Yes, for what your using it for.

For quality Dell is by far the best brand.

I would only recommend Dell or Hp laptops.

    Pros:

Lots of RAM and moderately good processor

    Nice touchpad

    Good battery life

A very good laptop for the money, especially good value for students.

4 USB ports (most laptops come with 3)

    Lots of space

    Quite light for a laptop

    There are many more pros...

    Cons:

Cheap graphics card, but you don't need a better one unless you play lots of games.

Windows Vista (I recommend you to downgrade to xp)

This is for sure one of the best laptops for the price.

  6. This laptop is enough to satisfy your needs.

However it cannot be recommended for playing hardcore games as the graphic card x3100 does not support that much.

It is a good buy considering the overall purpose.
