If I got a bird, what do I have to do to take care of it besides, feed it, give it water, and scrub down the cage sometimes?

remeber parakeet is a inproper name the right name is BUDGIE!

    BYE

    again hoped i helped

  2. i wish it was that easy.

parakeets are generally pretty smart and need to be challenged, by training and interaction, they are extreamly social, (my boy just jumped on my shoulder to see what i was doing)

i think of my ringneck more like a kid than a bird, (except chld services don't take him away when i lock him in a cage).

you will need lots of free time. i spoil my boy to the max, if i'm home and awake he's out of his cage, my last bird didn't even use a cage at all.

in my source links is the best free training tutoral i have found on the net

  3. Do you want a tame one you can play with?

pet stores usually have untame babies, which make them pretty much just ornamental unless you want to spend months or years  trying to tame it down. :(

If you get a handfed baby, which actually can cost less sometimes,  then you'd need to spend time with your bird atleast 1 hour a day.  You also would want to feed it fresh veggies, fruit and cooked pasta/rice occasionally for optimal health.

Other than that small birds like parakeets are pretty low maintenance. you have to buy toys, clip their wings once a year, feed, clean the cage and food cups with hot water or safe cleaners.

You might not have heard that birds can die from cleaners with bleach or ammonia in them, and you can't use non-stick pans for cooking because it lets off fumes that can kill your bird.

handfed/tame parakeets are great little companions though, if you want untamed ones then get 2 for company.

    hope that helps!

  4. Budgies make great pets.  I haven't had one in a very long time tho.  Had many while I was growing up and some for my kids when they were young.  Best bet is do get one that is already hand tame and user friendly from the get go.  That will save you lots of time.  You just need to spend a lotta time with it.  He/she may even learn to talk.  They need baths also...  Lots of people here have given you lots of other ideas also.  If you do get one I wish you the best...  They are adorable birds.  Do buy it some toys also.  Mine always loved mirrors, and toys with bells.  Now a days there are tons of cool stuff for birds.  Just make sure you buy toys that are meant for the size of your bird.  You can also have different types of perches in it's cage.

  5. parakeets are kinda boring.

theyre really nervous around people and might not stay on your finger for long.

maybe you should get something better.

and the other thing is, dont get a bird just because you want a pet. because its going to be a huge waste.
