I definitely will go to Athens/Santorini. We also want to know what airlines do we take from Chicago to Athens/Santorini and where to fly out of to get back to Chicago. Also, any cheap good hotels to stay at? Thanks! We will be there for only for a week.

  1. I'd recommend staying in youth hostels, the European ones are good quality; look up Youth Hostels International. Honestly, if you want to do Greece well, you'll probably need longer than a week; the Pelepponese (southern Greece) is about a week's worth, and then the isalnds are about a week's worth. If you really won't have the chance to go back, though, make sure you do Athens and Delphi, and I'd say probably Olympia as well. You really don't want to miss Delphi (and if you travel by boat it would be easy to visit, it's right by the sea- gorgeous!) And the Parthenon is worth a trip in itself. I'd recommend *not* driving, esp. not in Athens... we did and it was scary/difficult. Doable, but if you're not ready for crazy driving and lots of stress, I would find another way to get around. If you want to do the islands too I'd really recommend going by boat, most of the sites in mainland Greece are close to the sea. Don't do the north- it isn't worth it for the time you have

  2. You cant get a direct flight from Chicago to Greece.  I would suggest going to Atlanta, New York or Philadelphia first.  Then you could go to Greece.  Try to avoid Olympic Airlines on long flights.  Its okay for short flights though.
