In my family, baptisms are always celebrated w/ a big party. I don't want to have 2 partie$ so close together. The baptism is at 9 am, but I don't want to start the party until 2pm.

  1. you should start the party at 1:00

  2. Instead of doing a big reception after the baptism do it at the party it will be less stressful that way. you can have a cake for the party goers in the shape of a cross to celebrate teh baptism and a little individual cake for the baby.  Good luck

  3. There are some time issues to consider here.  What will the guests be doing between the end of the baptism, and the start of the party? ...  I understand that your son probably goes down for a nap around 10 am; but maybe you could start the party around noon, when he gets up (especially if he takes another nap later in the afternoon).  ( You DO realize that some of your family will come to your house directly after the baptism anyways, don't you? ) ... that morning nap time will give you just enough time to set out the things for the party.  BBQ & salads would probably be easiest (or a 6'foot sub sandwich) .....

  4. While people will appreciate celebrating both the same day, i don't think they will like spending the WHOLE day with you. 9am to well past 2 is too long.  Besides, what are you going to do, say OK, now the baptism party is over, let's start the birthday party!  No.  Instead, why not combine the parties.  Have friends/family over after the baptism, but make it a combo baptism/bday celebration.  Then let everyone go home after a couple hours of... say, 1 or so.
