  1. if you live on the east of the mississippi you go to parris island and the west of the mississippi you will go to sandiego

some times you could go to the other but not often

    you need to run run run, push-ups push-ups push-ups, sit-ups sit-ups,

  2. Only males living west of the mississippi go to MCRD San Diego, males living east and all females goe to Parris Island, SC.

Get yourself in good shape.  Be able to run mid to low 20's on 3 mile runs, females should practice their flexed arm hang and males practice dead hang pullups, etc...  Just don't sit on your ***.

Also, one thing to keep in mind is that boot camp is the easy part of an enlistment physically and mentally.  It really doesn't compare to what I did in the 8 years that followed it.

Even if you don't swear in right away most recruiters are willing to PT with their poolees to get them into shape before they ship.  Just don't expect him/her to make you do it.  A lot of the discipline that you'll be required to have to succeed as a Marine comes from within yourself.

  3. I'm not currently a marine, but am already DEPed in. My husband was in the USMC for 4 years and 2 Iraqi deployments. Which boot camp you go is mostly based on where you live. A rule of thumb is East of the Mississippi River is Parris Island, and West is MCDR San Diego. Unless, of course you are a female in which case it is 100% always Parris Island. My husband, and his friends, say the best way to prepare for boot camp is get a ton of cardio under your belt so the constant moving and exercise isn't so hard on your body. And to learn basic information. They have all told me if they could have memorized one thing before leaving it would have been the 11 General Orders (see link). Although, another friend said their DI barely touched those. Also understand "yes sir" and "no sir" are answers to questions "Aye sir" is a response. For instance "Did you know you're slow recruit?" "Yes sir" and "Recruit! Go to your rack and re-make it." "Aye Sir". No matter what in general in boot camp you will never be fast enough, smart enough, good enough, working hard enough. Understanding doing your best is what they expect and will push you beyond is crucial. I know I'm a second hand source, but I've been asking the same questions and am leaving soon. I hope it helps.

  4. You've already had posters reply that you go to PI if you are east of the Mississippi and to Disneyland west of the Mississippi. I've heard they are issued sunglasses and suntan oil at Diego ;)

It's tough no matter where you go. BTW, your pic shows a female so you would go to PI. All female recruits go to PI. I guess that just means you are tougher than a Hollywood Marine.

For you Hollywood Marines out there, I'm just kidding about Diego. I know you undergo the same tough training. I'm just pulling your legs.
