I'm thinking of moving to Boulder, CO for my last 2 years of college. Any thoughts or advice on living there?

I've lived in all my life, and am looking for a change. I'm a vegetarian and I'm very into animal rights. As far as athletics goes, I know Boulder is a very active town, and I'm not very athletic. Does anyone have any thoughts on the University of Colorado in Boulder? Or any thoughts on living in Boulder in general?

  1. Naahhhhh. You should move to NJ and go to Stevens Institute of Technology... And so should girls named Ashley >=|

  2. Boulder is a pretty fun town, especially if you're part of the college scene (it's pretty much the definition of a college town). Don't worry about being a vegetarian...you'll fit right in. As for athletics...Colorado in general is considered a pretty "athletic" state...aka...they like to ski...a lot. But if that's not you, don't worry. You'll meet all kinds of people, athletic and not.

UC schools are very good. I went to UC Denver, but I have a lot of friends currently enrolled in Boulder that love it. The teachers are good, they offer a lot of classes, and if you like football or marching band you'll fit in even better.

UC Boulder does have a reputation as a party school. Don't let it get you down...but every once in a while you hear on the news about some stupid frat boy that got killed because he was being stupid.

Like I said...just like with every college...you'll meet all sorts. I love Colorado, and miss it dearly (I don't live there right now...I'm going to school in California)...but I highly recommend that everyone at least experience a year or two there.

  3. Boulder is a great town.  There are lot of different laws there.  Most of them protect the environment and  bicyclists. It is not a cheap as it was like 10 or even 5 years ago.  Cu is way too expensive for what you are getting.  Unless you like to party.  Tons of college kids doing that.  It's a town full of Older Hippies, Yuppies, and College Kids.

It has tons to offer as far as recreation.  Hiking, biking, walking, is all in your back door.

A one bedroom apartment is going to run you about $600-$800.  If you gon craigslist there are always people looking for roommates.  Everyone is laid back so I'm sure it won't be hard to find a place.  After saying that you might think about Ft. Collins.  CSU is a great school, and Ft. Collins is always voted one of the best places to live.  I have lived in Colorado all my life and Ft. Collins is always a good time.  it too is a college town.  It's not in the Foot hills of Colorado, but it is close to mountains and The Rocky Mountain National Park.  Where your outdoor activities are endless.

  4. You've heard it a couple of times now but truly, it's an expensive town.  If you can manage to find a couple of roommates, or even better commute from Longmont (a much more affordable city about 10 miles north of Boulder) you'll be much happier and not quite as poor.  :)  (Just as an example, my 1000-sq-ft house went for 150K in Longmont, and the same house would easily go for 400K in Boulder.)

CU is great though (it goes by CU Boulder, not UC Boulder FYI) - I work there!  Go Buffs!

  5. Boulder is the most amazing place in the whole entire country. =D

  6. Wonderful city but quite expensive
