Are they joined with any other bank or building society or are they a stand alone company?

  1. What is the interest rate being paid?  Bonds are a bad investment these days since inflation is high and rising rapidly.  A bond guarantees that you will lose money, or at least its purchasing power.

  2. They are an offshoot of an Icelandic bank. This means your deposit is only guaranteed up to £35,000

The icici bank is doing a one year bond at 7.2%

    EDIT

dontpani is incorrect, Kaupthing has signed up to the UK banking code, see my link below

  3. They are an Icelandic bank with no ties to UK banks as far as I know - Financial Services Compensation Scheme also covers them for first £35K

  4. Read the inflation busting blog on this site and it shows some accounts that will beat inflation.
