  1. If you become an Economics Major in college, you can be more than just an accountant.  Financial Planner, Stock Trader and other possibilities, in addition to accounting. My accountant is rarely bored and an interesting person to talk to, especially when it comes to money.

  2. Well Ash, as your concern about being rewarding, accounting profession has always been the one amongst the top professions. So financially, yes it is rewarding and its been a profession in demand for quite a few years now in almost every economy.

As for your concerns of being boring and dry, it all depends on how you treat yourself. I know a few accountants who have very colourful personalities. So at the end of the day, its all about you what you make of it. But I would say its not a bad choice, but bear in mind, its a very demanding profession where you have to be on top of your skills to be successful.

Good luck for your future endeavors.

  3. Well, I'm a senior accounting student, and I took a little jog in my career that I think will perk things up.

I am getting my bachelors in Accounting Fraud Investigation with a master's in Forensic Accounting. Just like CSI, only no guns, just really sharp pencils!

Forensic accountants need lots of computer security clases and physical security classes. The more I know about computers, the better off I'll be. Most fraud now is cyber-stealing.

    Sounds interesting! Can't wait!

  4. An accounting career can definitely be rewarding, fun, creative and satisfying.  I would suggest finding a large company where opportunities are varied.  As an accounting professional you can quickly work your way into numerous positions within finance, management, etc.  An accounting background will serve you will in many facets of business.

Don't think that all accountants are just number-crunchers.  They help make major decisions and run many major companies.
