Question:

I'm thinking of thinning my thick hair, is this a bad idea?

I have thick hair that is wavy when air dried. I asked my mom if I could get it thinned and we asked my hair-dresser. She said there was a way that thins your hair by adding really really small layers that are underneath the rest of your hair, so you can't see them. She said that you would do this a few times a year, but when the layers grow out, they make your hair a little frizzy and thicker. Do you think it's worth it? I want thinner hair so it's easier to manage. It's so hard to comb through my hair: I've broke brushes and combs (Like in the Princess Dairies!) and brake a lot of ponytail holders. Is there any other ways to thin my hair?

  1. I've had problems with hairdressers "texturizing" my hair. When you get older your hair will get thinner.

  2. i'de go with the hair dresser

then get the layers trimmed every few months

  3. i  have the same hair!

its dry, frizzy, and honestly out of control!

i thin my hair every other week... and it helps alot! trust me.. it is sooo worth it!

  4. wow you should definitely get thinner hair.

  5. I have really thick hair that is wavy too, get it thinned out, it is so worth it. I do it all the time.

  6. Everytime i go to get my hair cut i get my hair thinned. When my hair was thick it was harder to take care of. So you should definitely get it thinned.

  7. YESSSSS! I thin my hair a lot, it is for sure worth it.

  8. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! i went to get my hair cut short and my hair is thick and wavy when air dryed just like you. don't thin it. ur hair is much more better thick than thin. trust me.

  9. It's worth it. I have thin hair, but I've seen good results from it.

  10. I am in the same position as you. My hair is severely thick. My hairdresser told me thinning is bad for my hair. As for the frizzieness I suggest you use moose or gel for your hair.

  11. no it sounds good. easier to deal with

  12. Yes you can get it thinned but you have to make sure when your hair dresser thins it they dont make it too close to your head because then it could be a problem. Scince you dont have curly hair I think getting your hair thnned would be a fine idea.

  13. you should because it grows out to have nice layers and it is aot easier to starighten and it doesnt last forever so if you dont like it then its  not a big deal :)

  14. Yes, there are ways to thin out your hair without changing it too much. You could have some layers put in and that would definitely thin it out, but that would change the style.

Your hairstylist is suggesting an easy way to thin the hair out with thinning shears that will remove alot of the bulk from your hair, but I warn as she did, you can't do this too often, or your hair will be worse than before.

    Good luck to ya!

  15. Do it if you think you would feel better, BUT MAKE SURE the hairstylist doesn't take off too much hair! I tried to thin my long wavy hair when I was 18, and next thing I knew I had piles of my hair all over the floor. I cried because they hairstylist totally went crazy with her scissors! So, go with someone you trust, who knows what they are doing! Good Luck :)

  16. Yes it's worth it and you can get the layers recut when they grow out.

You'll have less hair to deal with and it'll make your head feel lighter. Although I love having long hair mine is quite thick and it just gets too heavy (esp to put up in a pony tail or bun) so it's a relief to have layers put it.
