i love teal but i'm not sure it would work as an accent color for only one wall. also, i have a room at my dad's house that i might redo for my birthday. what color comforter, wall (possibly accented also, but a different one from the other room), and what color curtains?? thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!! i really appreciate the ideas. =)

  1. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think teal would would look terrific as an accent wall in your mom's house. As for your room at your dad's house, maybe do your accent wall in dark mauve like "alaea" (# 7579) and then paint the rest of the walls a pale pink like "cosmetic blush" (# 7110). Then get a pretty pastel comforter, like one of these:

I like the Rosette by Lawrence.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

  2. Buy the comforter you like, and base coat the accent wall using the most neutral color form the comforter then splash or sponge paint 2-3 other comforter colors on the base coat.

  3. any color really works with black and white as long as you do it the right way :)

My favorites with those colors are red or yellow though!

    Have fun!

  4. Alot of my house is black and white with Red as the accent. Red works really well, but since you're much younger you could try green or yellow not too bright. Maybe combine the two. If you're going for a more modern look with your room then try to stick with solids or extra large patterns. If you want more of a girlie look then go for more scroll or floral patters. Check out the Lauryn Sateen Duvet set at Walmart. Also, if you're like me and you change your room a million times before you're 18 then try the duvet cover thing. It can be much less expensive in the long run. Good luck with the redecorating!!!!!!

  6. Teal is awesome, go for it!

As for your dad's house, I'd say get yourself an awesome comfortorter with a really cool print like one of these http://www.pbteen.com/gift/thm/thmgrl/th...

(but not necessarily from Pottery Barn, cause personally I think they're a bit pricey). Even wal-Mart's got some cool ones. Just get something with a bunch of bright colors and a pattern you really like. Then pick your favorite one or two colors out of the comforter, and go with those for your walls. I saw a room the other day, where they did that and painted each opposite wall a different color out of the comforter (it was bright blue and pink) and it looked REALLY good. (So one wall was blue, the next one was pink, the next one was blue, and then the fourth wall was pink)

The beauty of getting a comforter that you love and then picking the colors afterward is that if you get tired of the wall color, you can just repaint with something new that matches, and it's a lot cheaper.

As far as the curtains go, when you have a brightly colored room it's best to keep either black or white as your accent color (I personally prefer black). So for picture frames, mirror frames, curtains, etc. Keep it black or white or a print (like polka dots, flowers, etc.)or combination of both.
