I'm throwing my annual halloween party for my nephews and nieces this year. We've acquired an old, old schoolhouse. We're having the food and games inside the schoolhouse, but want to have the scary stuff outside in the dark. I'm planning on lining the long driveway with tiki torches, and then i'm gonna have some of us dressed in costumes, standing at different places beside the road to scare the kids, because they will be riding on a hay-covered trailer with the parents, and I would love to not only scare the kids, but the parents as well. What I need is budget friendly ideas to make at home. Anything that can be put outside and easy to make. They have a pavilion out back that we are going to use to set up different scary rooms, like a mad scientist lab, etc. I also need to know how to make a fake pendulum (nephews' idea). I'm planning on being a witch but all I can find are the S****y little costumes that aren't age appropriate. Please help me be extra scary. I need attire idea, makeup tips, etc.!! This is my fourth Halloween party, but I've never taken on a building of this size. My family keeps getting bigger, but unfortunately, my house doesn't.

  1. I don't know exactly how scary you'd like to be and what age the kids are, but I've got a cake idea (receipe and directions can be found on the Net).  It's called "Litter Box Cake".  Basically you'd make either a spice or chocolate cake, crumble it into a NEW, NEVER USED (of course - haha) Litter Box.  This will simulate the litter.  Get tootsie rolls and put them in the oven until they begin to get gooy and add them to the "litter" - this will simulate (you get the idea) and then in order to scoop out the cake and tootsie rolls, use a NEW, NEVER USED (of course - haha) litter scoop (which you will have placed on the side of the box, sitting sort of it the mixture).  Please look under "Litter Box Cake" for all the other ideas.  This is one cake NO ONE will ever forget.

In order to be a Witch, why don't you go to a thrift store and buy some old vintage clothes (all black, of course).  Where black nail polish and perhaps read palms (I'm sure that you can make up some good things to tell people).  Make your face white/pale and then you can put black lipstick on as well.  In most drug stores (Walgreens, CVS, etc.) they have "wash-out" hair colors.  You can get black or silver to color your hair, or you can just where a black hankerchief over your hair.

I've got a good scare for the parents (this will NOT faze the kids at all) - Just hold up a sign counting down the days until Christmas - that'll scare them for sure.  :)

Have a lovely rest of the evening.  Happy Labor Day Weekend.  Happy "Early" Halloween (which is NEVER too early for me).
