I'm throwing a shower for a friend who is adopting a 6-year-old boy. What shower games should we play?

Just to clarify, this is a shower for my friend who is preparing to adopt--not for the child. The idea is to shower her with gifts to help her care for a 6 year old--as opposed to a baby. So, any help with ideas for games?

  1. Yea, I find the idea of a shower for a 6 year old inappropriate.

But shower games are stupid. Have a pinata and invite kids.

  2. A shower? As in a baby shower - like she just gave birth to a 6 year old?

  3. With my shower, my daughter was an infant, however, you can still play the majority of the games you would at any shower. Even though her son is not in diapers, a game that was a hit at my shower was called "Diaper Doodie".  The hostess labeled 10 pampers numbered 1-10. Inside, she melted popular chocolate bars, Snickers, Recees, Milky Way, etc., then you would smell the melted chocolate and write down what you thought it was next to the number on a sheet of paper.

Sounds gross I know, but it was hilarious!!! The video and pictures of all ofthe women doing it are priceless!

  4. To be honest, I've always hated shower games. The only one I ever liked was when we tried to match each other to our baby pictures. You could do something like that and have everyone bring a picture from when they were 6.

  5. EDITED TO ADD:

I know that the party is for the mother of the six year old, and not the six year old himself.  But just as showers for babies include games such as changing a diaper on a doll or drinking from a bottle the quickest, the mother is going to have to learn to play with Hot Wheel cars and put a chain on a bike.  Likewise, she can practice her knowledge of movies and music that her new son will like.  So, I stick by my suggestions.

Get the board game "Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader" and have the guests answer the first grade questions.  Whoever scores highest wins.

Pin the bowtie on the boy?  LOL Or something similar

Have a race with the guests, using Hot Wheels cars.

Take the chain off of a bike, and see which guest can get it back on the quickest.

Find a child's joke book, and tell them at the shower-see which guest can get the most right.

Find popular children's books in that age range, and list the story outline or the characters-have the guests match them to the title.

You can do the same thing with movies.

Play "Don't Forget the Lyrics" with children's songs.

Have fun, and congratulations to your friend!

  6. How about see how many words they can make from the child's name in a certain amount of time.  Have a great time!

  7. Make the adults act like a 6-year old.

  8. I am not sure of any games, but I think that if he is going to be there, they should be ones that he like and can join in with.... you probably already thought of this but anyway.... good luck.
