Question:

I'm throwing a tea party luncheon for my neices and friends' daughters. What should I serve?

I wanted it to be more than scones and tea since it will be near around lunchtime. I am requesting that all the "ladies" wear hats.

Any ideas for food, or fun laid back activities the girls might consider fun, but grown up? I don't want us running around the yard in our dresses and hats, but I feel like I should have something to do for entertainment.

  1. Serve little finger foods like sandwiches. Put out bowls of chips, salsa, guacamole, goldfish, vegetables, fruit, and maybe some M'n'M's!

  2. finger sandwiches. have a little make-up party along with the tea party! or do their hair paint toes or finger nails. something thats really girly. or an the end have a ice cream sunday Buffet.

  3. we had a traditional English tea for my mother-in-law (at a cute Victorian place that does these ) and it was amazing how many of the children including the boys enjoyed the event.  They liked the rituals and special foods.  So I would suggest doing the traditional English tea sandwiches with the crusts cut off and all.

I'll post links rather than fill this up with recipes

  4. Tea sandwiches (cucumber, tomato and/or watercress) would be nice ... or you could get some platters of roll-ups (cut wrap sandwiches), or even mini-croissant sandwiches...  You could play Scattergories, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit or even charades....

  5. a tea party would not be complete without cucumber sandwiches a perfect english trifle and a game of croquet( it is such a lazy game you shouldnt be able to spoil your clothes)

  6. well a buffet always goes down well you know sandwiches, sausage rolls that kinda thing.Young girls love to dance so a disco out in the garden would be great thing for them

  7. This is so cute and so fun for you and your nieces!

You can have sandwiches and cut them into fun shapes with cookie cutters! You can do peanut butter and jelly if no one is allergic to peanuts, you can do little cucumber sandwiches,  tuna sandwiches, etc.

I also agree with the first poster that you can have goldfish crackers out etc.  You can also do cheese and crackers, crudite with carrots and celery with dip, some grapes and other fruits, and then do the sweets and desserts.

You can serve lemonade and iced tea and then do the hot tea in the tea cups and saucers.

For activities, there's lots you can do!  There's a game called table topics, there's a bunch of different ones for different themes like teens, families, etc.  you can get it amazon.com and other places, I'm not sure how old the girls are, but you can make your own and ask them your own questions and have them go around the table, this way it's something you can learn about each other, and have fun, some questions like:

If you hosted your own tea party, who would you invite?

    What would you serve?

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Where do you think you'll live?

What are you going to name your kids?

You can go on with different questions, some fun and silly, others serious, etc.  Just have fun with it!

You can also do a craft project with them.  You can go to the craft store and get those kits to do sand art and things like that, or you can get something like those wood birdhouses and you and the girls can have fun painting and decorating it together.  You can pick up a few different ideas and kits at the craft store, even a blank frame you can each decorate for a picture of your day together.

You can also go to the dollar store and get those tall plastic sundae glasses and get some different flavors of ice cream and some toppings, sprinkles, whipped cream, etc, and have them and you make your own ice cream sundaes.

I hope some of these ideas help and that you and your nieces have an awesome party!
