I'm new to Ireland from Canada, and was told that because I am lving in Co. Kildare I have to go to my "local welfare office" in Newbridge, which takes four hours by bus and does not have a train route. I'm employed, and have not been paid because I don't have my PPSN, but I can't take an entire day off to venture to the welfare office. Does anyone know of an easier way? I've been told about 50 different things over the phone, it seems impossible to try and get a straight answer. USIT told me I can register in Dublin if I work in Dublin, but then when I called the office they said that was not possible. This is so frustrating!

  1. There are also social welfare offices in Athy and Maynooth, if they're any nearer to you.  But you do have to go there in person as far as I know, because you have to have proof of identity and proof of address etc.  Also, I doubt it will take four hours to get from one place in Co. Kildare to another.  Maybe you could ask someone for a lift, or take a half day if you can't take a whole day off.

  2. It doesnt even take 4 hours to drive from Waterford to Dublin...how can it possibly take you that long to get to Kildare?? you need to check that out!!!!

unless they can post something to you with it on it? have they tried that? or have you any tax forms? it could be on a payslip maybe?

Theres no way it can take that long to travel to newbridge

  3. whereabouts in kildare are you?..it shouldnt take that long to get to newbridge. there is a train station in newbridge. If youre working in dublin, you can also get a train from heuston station to newbridge...take maybe 30/45mins.

Talking over the phone to people in call centres is usually a waste of time in my experience cos with high turnover, theyre prob new and have no clue what theyre talking about.
