Are there any childminders out there who could give me some advise for the home visit? What is the home visit like? And are there any childminders who have a small home and have still been registered to care for children? thanks

  1. Yes.The home visits checks on the safety of the house, any resources you have for the children you will be caring for and if they are appropriate in the sense that will they promote learning and development?  They will want to know about any planned menu, activities, about outdoor play area and the safety of it.  ie no poisonous plants growing in the play area of the garden.  Any courses that you have attended to keep you up to date on issues such as ' Behaviour Management.  How are you able to run the service when you are ill and who you have nominated to be your assistant.  places available for children and their age group. All hazadous cleaning products and bleaches must be stored away from the reach of the children.  That means out of 'under the sink' to a storage above and out of children's reach. Basically they will check all around and expecially the rooms available to the children.  Just be your self and get the kettle on.  Put all your folders with all the papers she need to see in the room you will be seeing her/him in so that the need to keep getting up is avoided. Attend every available workshop on childminding so that you are up to date with important informations. You must also register with the NCMA. As soon as they approve they would also tell you how many children you are allowed.  Perhaps that will be a good time to talk to them about the size of your house and what space will be available for the child/ren. Good Luck.  If you sincerely care about children it is immensly a rewarding job.  pls excuse any spelling mistakes.
