  1. I don't know the age of your children but I have found that the constant low background noise and gentle movement puts kids to sleep and they do better than most adults.

The seats are roomier than airplanes by far but I think the answer about getting a roomette is good advice.

Enjoy your trip, it is a nice civilized way to travel. Much better than airplanes and buses.

  2. i just went for 41 hours on amtrak each way from portland to winona minnesota.

to answer you r wuestion = NO. the constant jittering around of the train makes it hard, however it's cheaper than flying.

  3. The answer above is not accurate. A roomette is a LOT more, however, meals are included in a sleeper. Plus, a roomette only sleeps two.

  4. I would get a roomette.  It might cost a little more but will be more comfortable since you have children.
