  1. Argentina's a huge country, man!  Pretty much everybody flies into Buenos Aires if they're coming in internationally.  I would suggest spending a few days (or longer if you have the time) in the city.  It is one of my favorite cities in the world.  Definitely go to a tango show and eat at some of the phenomenal restaurants.  I always got really good recommendations from locals when I was there.  The shopping is amazing and the nightlife is unbelievable.  Give yourself ample time to enjoy this amazing city!

Outside of Buenos Aires the landscape changes dramatically.  If you go all the way south you head into Patagonia and you'll find an arid, cold environment where you can experience glaciers and possibly arctic type animals.

Bariloche is an awesome winter-resort town and I highly recommend visiting.  In the winter (June-Aug) you can ski or enjoy other snow sports and in the summer (Dec-Feb) you can hike, raft, sit in the sun, go horseback riding, swim, etc.  It's a beautiful place any time of the year.

Mendoza is an amazing wine-making region and I recommend visiting the bodegas and tasting some wonderful wines.  The city is a nice place to stay as well, but doesn't have as much going for it as a bigger place like Buenos Aires.  The surrounding country side is lovely, though.

Cordoba is a really incredible University town.  It has some amazing history, beautiful architecture, and has a really vibrant feeling among its people.  I quite enjoyed staying there as well.

My best advice to you is to go to a good book store, sit down, and peruse all of their travel books about Argentina.  Figure out which one looks the most appealing to you and read it, but don't buy it!  Get a good idea of what you're going into and then just jump in head first and see what happens.  That is the magic of travel ... no planning, going with the flow, and just experiencing new things, people, and places without an agenda.  Try talking to locals when you get there and take their recommendations for places to stay and eat ... you will be pleasantly surprised!  Have a great trip!

  2. Try and avoid winter, it's freezing right now. Go in either spring or fall, go to Buenos Aires and there are two trendy neighbourhoods to stay: Palermo Hollywood or Puerto Madero. In Puerto Madero you have the Hilton (I usually stay there) or the Faena hotel which is a NY boutique style hotel.

Read the Fodors guide online (or buy the guide) as to me it's the best guide which describes Argentina best and will tell you more about places to visit, eat, etc.

  3. Try this guide.
