I'm traveling to Paris on my own--I'm very excited and a bit anxious as well. Any ideas/activities?

  1. I will suggest some lesser known but locally popular areas such as

    canal st martin

    viaduc des arts

    place des vosges

  2. I've been to Paris five times.  Twice on my own.

It's lovely city.  You'll have a wonderful time.   You should have no problem on your own.  Museums and shopping (Galleries Lafayette) are easy places to do alone.  I used to take a book with me to read while I was having lunch or dinner or whatever.  The only thing I'd say is that French men have no problem sitting down and striking a conversation with you... or trying to anyway.  Just be a bit cautious where that's concerned.

    Bon voyage.

  3. From a previous question of yours I understand you will be there from 9/19-926.

    1. Go to this website: http://www.jim-haynes.com/index.htm and arrange to go have Sunday dinner with Jim Haynes and his 200 most intimate friends (of which you will  instantly be considered one)

    2. Head over to Aux Trois Mailletz at 56 rue Galande in the 5th arrondissement (on the Left bank just a bit south of the Seine and off the rue St. Jacques). Its my favorite hangout. Good music and pleasant people. Its open until the sun comes up.

    3. Check out the big plaza in front of the Centre Pompidu (Which contains the Museum of Modern Art). On most sunny afternoons you'll find all sorts of street entertainers there. Among these will almost always be some guys doing big involved audience participation comedy bits. When they call for volunteers (and they always do) don't hesitate to stand up. The fact that you probably don't speak French will be NO problem. These guys tend to be very good and very funny. You'll have a great time and if you can have someone snap a picture you'll have a great story to tell when you get home (and a photo to prove it).

As for blending in, don't worry about it. I have spent a lot of time in Paris (and many other places). I never try to blend in and probably couldn't if I tried but I never have had a serious problem with anyone.

    Neither will you.

Be bold. Be unafraid. If you don't look for problems you won't find any. Have a great time.

  4. Take some good shoes, a guide book with the map of Paris and walk... This is the best way to discover a city and blind in. Subway is safe, except pick-pockets. So be careful to your wallet or bag.

    Enjoy your trip!!!
