I'm guessing that changing my cell service for the time would be best- about how much will this be? And is there anything I need to purchase in order to do this?

  1. If you're going to be able to use your laptop/pc, then get a skype account. Free pc to pc calling, and very cheap rates for calling landlines anywhere in the world. Check out skype.com for the rates - looks like about 1p per minute..

I save a bundle on calls from the US to the UK, although sometimes the quality is a bit iffy...but when my monthly bill is sometimes $200 or 300 cheaper than it would be on a landline, I can put up with a few dropped calls.....

  2. 1- Long-distance phone cards, plenty of them and cheap!

2- If you cell to-day is a GSM (make sure) you can buy a chip anywher in Europe and change it if un-blocked!
