What should I be sure and do?

I'm also a photographer, and will be taking my Canon 35mm and a Fujifilm S5100...I heard things about how you should cover up any brand names, etc, with black tape. Why is this? Will bringing my cameras be a HUGE risk of getting them taken from me by officials (not just theives, pickpocketers, but actual law enforcement)

  1. I don't know about the other countries you are traveling to, but in Costa Rica you can take both your cameras with no problem. Just be careful when you go to public places and always keep an eye on your cameras.

You don't have to cover the brand or anything.

  2. I traveled in Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica, and never had any trouble with officials involving my camera.  Its remotely possible they'd be touchy if you took pics of military installations or something, but even then...

  3. Never heard of that, been to Costa Rica twice, and had no problems with either cameras, or film... (I now use digital).  Some countries want you to register the equipment that you bring in, because they think you might sell it.... Africa way more of a problem about this than CR, but even then, I just gladly showed them my stuff, smiled stupidly, and they let me in and out.

Places to see.... for sure don't miss the Monte Verde Rain forest, and hope you get to photograph the Respendant Quatzel.... one lovely bird.  If nothing else, hope you at least get to see it.

Have a great time... the people are lovely... but as anywhere, always watch your stuff.
