  1. I assume you are coming from outside Europe, and in which case I agree that something from your local area is a nice touch, also a great conversation piece to get things started

Food & fresh items are a bit tricky these days if you are coming over by plane, so if there is nothing typical other that this, then what is also nice is a book, either about your area, e.g history, or photos etc.

Another idea is a recipe book with recipes from your country/area.  Most people like cooking & experimenting with different kinds of foods in Europe these days.  Also it gives your host family something to keep, that is useful and every time they use it, will think about you!

  2. If in doubt; maybe you could take them out to dinner while you are there.

  3. If your going to Holland, get wooden shoes, if yuor going to Germany, get a Beer stein..

  4. Bring something from your region that they might not have there. When I went to Germany, I brought pancake mix, maple syrup, and peanut butter. Believe it or not, they had never had those things before. (My grandma made home-made maple syrup.) Do a little bit of research on what they might not have there that is found here or just bring something that is made in your area. Typically, hosts bring a bottle of wine when they come for a dinner in Europe, so you can also bring that as well.... when I went to Germany, I was only 17.

  5. Try including a country, you may get more helpful answers.  Europe is a big place...

  6. Something original from your area. Don't forget, now a days, you have to pay dearly for luggage. Everything, what is lightweight like pictures, little figurines, snowballs is perfect.

  7. well i went to germany to visit and if you are going there then definetly flowers the people there always give flowers as a thanks for letting them come.

  8. It is always nice to bring something that is unique to where you live.  For example, if you live in Texas a bottle of Barbecue Sauce....if you live in Florida some nice sea shells...etc.
