I've read I should wear a sari or salwar kameez. Yes? If so, where can I get an inexpensive one before going to India?

  1. A sari.

  2. Don't wear anything too revealing or tight, unless you want everyone to stare at you. Salwar is the best, because you can actually do a lot of stuff in them. We can only tell you where to buy one, if you tell us where you are from, as there are at least 100 countries in the world. But there is usually a community with Indian shops and restaurants nearby.

  3. Indian style dresses with basic patterns and lots of bright colors (red is really good)

  4. some simple cotton material that covers u fully will be idle ...

  5. You don't really need to buy indian clothing to go to India unless You want to wear indian clothing.  You can wear jeans and a top. Don't wear jeans that are too tight or tops that are too tight as well. Do not wear anything revealing.

If you want to buy something before you go there then you should go to the Indian shops in your area and see what they have and tell then you want something simple or inexpensive. They should be able to help you.

When you go to India and shop, try to take someone from India or someone( a female) who knows the area with you because some shopkeepers charge individuals more if they know they are not from the area or know that this is your first time buying India clothing: )

    You can wear...

    salwar kameez

  6. there are places where one would mind if you weren't wearing ethnic wear(religious places or older establishments in cities) but the rest of the country it's better to wear clothes that aren't clingy, revealing or eye catching. and don't go on asking many people for help or else you will be charged( in some places) cuz it attracts attention since you'll not be knowing what to do. jus ask some women.

  7. It depends where you would be travelling. If you stick to big metropols then jeans and t-shirt would do as long as you cover yourself well. A safe bet to wear anywhere is Salwar Kameez. Choose cotton. Only very elderly ladies wear saris on a day to day basis else Salwar Kameez is more popular. Saris are more difficult to manage if you are not used to wearing them. So stick to Salwar Kameez. You could buy one in any Indian clothes store in your area or buy online.

  8. This is not true you can wear anything what ever you want.... so don't take tension about that if you need more info on india tours visit holiday club india .net

  9. Splinter, there is no such restriction that you should wear a saree or salwar kameez except for few cases where if you want to enter a holy shrine, you may have to cover your head with a dupatta usually worn with salwars. In some other stricter establishments, wearing a saree is a must but then you have to learn wearing it to avoid any embarassing situation. It also depends on the states and places you are going to visit. In the cities, nobody minds a girl wearing western outfits but that should not be too revealing if you do not wish to hurt the peoples' sentiments. In case you are still willing to wear ethnic Indian dresses, salwar kameez will be more comfortable as an option. If there is considerable Indian/ Pakistani/ Bangladeshi settlements where you live, visit the neighbourhood and you will get what you want. However, the clothings will be cheaper in India itself and you can get your hands on these when you arrive. Go for cotton clothings and carry light woolens.

  10. If you are a western woman, I highly recommend that you cover yourself a little more than usual. Don;t wear shorts, short skirts, or tank tops. If you do, you will be harassed.

Also, do not wear dark coloured clothing, especially in the evening. Wearing lighter coloured clothing will protect you from mosquitoes.

Don't wear sandals. Streets are filthy. Wear closed shoes.

I also suggest you bring some hankies. You will need them to cover your mouth if you are a heavily polluted city.

You don;t have to wear traditional Indian clothes. Just dress more conservatively for your own safety.

  11. Just cover yourself properly, even jeans and t shirt will do, they shdnt be too tight to expose ur curves...the everything will be fine you will be comfortable too

  12. try google earth or yahoo maps

  13. In India, you can wear anything.

Aware that going in Bikinis in India is banned.

All cotton wears, casuals are highly recommended.

And India is the only country in the world with all climate all around the year.

It also depends on the place you are traveling.
