I'm going on Sunday the 12th and I'm staying in Dublin for the 5 nights. We're thinking of getting a car one of two of the days, though, so we can visit a bit of the country. Where should we go? Which places are most typical / beautiful?

  1. Rent a car and go to the West. On your way visit the Blarney Castle. Yeah, its touristy but can you really go all the way to Ireland and not kiss the Blarney Stone? That will cost you 8 Euro and this is the website http://www.blarneycastle.ie/ . Then drive yourself to the Cliffs of Moher which is really awesome http://www.cliffsofmoher.ie/ and will cost you 8 Euro per carload. Then you should drive south to the Ring of Kerry (or another of the Penninsulas like Dingle) and drive the route. There is no cost involved and you will see some of the most beautiful sights and also be surprised at the variety of scenery. You will need nerves of steel as the roads are not the best, sometimes having only one lane on a gravel road at the side of a cliff but it is so worth it. Here is a website as well http://www.kerry-tourism.com/ . Those were the highlights of my trip and you definitely shouldn't miss them!

  2. go hikeing bikeing take a tour of the place

  3. I agree with SKY KATS on everything.  I'm American but I lived in Dublin for a year and traveled all over.  A car is nice if your used to the roads and driving on the other side of the road.  I would suggest traveling by rail (www.irelandrailtours.com). That's what I did and you get to see all of the countryside without all the hassle of trying to figure out small Irish country roads.  Also, if you can, take a trip up to the North and check out Giant's Causeway.  It's way at the top of Northern Ireland but really worth the trip.  I would be happy to answer anything else about Dublin if you like :)

  4. Staying West is the right move, Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands are great, so many things, just enjoy the people most of all. 5 days is not alot but you can get alot done. Dingle is great, beautiful ride through Conor's Pass. Also Ring of Kerry is spectacular and James Joyce country in the west. Giant's Causeway as stated is amazing as well as Newgrange, in fact everything mentioned before me is great as Ireland is great anywhere you go. Oh and by the way, DON'T kiss the Blarney Stone as my cousin who lives in Ireland told me the local workers p**s on the rock and have a grand laugh when the tourists kiss it. Just thought you might like to know.

  5. Definitely go to County Wexford. The Hook Lighthouse is beautiful and if you like JFK you can go to his memorial park. I have just been and it was lovely. If you have the chance go to Fethard-On-Sea. It is a beautiful little place.

  6. In addition to the west tour (Moher and Kerry and Dingle), spend time in Galway city. Also, fly into Dublin and spend a day there on Grafton street and go to St. James Gate if you like beer.  then drive across the country to Galway (you'll get a feel for great scenery)...then move southward as described above-drive back to dublin via Waterford. Also, there's a great town in Cork called Clonakilty-an hour or two there would be nice...

  7. If you want to see the real unspoilt beauty of Ireland than I suggest you stay in County Kerry. Take a drive around the ring of Kerry, visit Dingle village for traditional pubs and music, Visit Inch beach and Tralee, a beautiful town.

Visit County Cork, take a visit to Blarney castle and kiss the Blarney Stone to get the "gift of the gab"...oh loads of beautiful scenery in the west of Ireland, not to mention Kerry and Cork people are the nicest, funniest people in Ireland!

  8. do the dublin city tour on the bus !!! ya learn a lot about the best county in ireland !!! and about the history !!! or go shopping in henry street and grafton street !!! or dubdrum town center there brilliant !!! hope i helped !!!

  9. New'grange, it's amazing it's the irish more advanced earlier Stonehenge but very different!  And come 2 Northern Ireland(I live there and visit the Giants Causeway it will amaze you the shape of those rocks!)
