I'm travelling to Reading from 'up north'. Is it poss to get off at Oxford for a couple of hours, then get back on a later train to Reading using the same ticket? I don't want to have to spend an extra £10-£20 buying a separate return ticket from Oxford to Reading. If so what sort of ticket is best to buy?

  1. You have to buy separate journeys you can only break your journey on the way back.

You need to find out whether Oxford has a barrier system, if its unmanned you should be ok.

  2. The ticket you need is a Saver return or a saver single. The cheap advance purchase tickets do not permit a break of journey.

  3. Oxford does have a barrier system. If you have an advance purchase ticket it is only valid on the train and between the stations marked on the ticket. With a Saver or Open ticket there shouldn't be any problem. Make sure you have your ticket checked by the gateline staff at Oxford rather than inserting it into the gate which might swallow it up
