I'm trying out for my freshmen baseball team?

Okay first of this is my first time playing for a baseball team, I'm 14, left handed, 5'5, and I really wanna play in the MLB and this is the first step of my procedure. I got a heart murmur ... It's getting checked out soon, but it's not stopping me from being the best. I've worked alot on hitting, getting a good arm and running. Try-outs are on around February, what do coaches mostly look for? And how are try-outs like?

Thank you.

  1. I'm going to help you out because your left-handed like me.

Here are some tips improving your pitching and go to the links

    1. Practice Pitching To Gain Talent, Speed, And Control

    2. Foucus on the runners and see if they are stealing

    3. Make sure your catcher frames the pitch (if the ball is a ball the catcher can quick bring it back into the Strike zone and the umpire may call the pitch a strike)

    4. Make sure you are in a proper and comfortable position on the mound.

    Follow these tips for batting.....

    1. The bat isn't about length it's what is comfortable with you

    2. Slow pitch comes swing slow Fast comes swing fast.

    3. Workout and you'll swing for the fences (improves your hitting)

    4. Same thing with pitcher Be in a proper and comfortable batting stance.

  2. I would say the number 1 thing is are you coachable?  You are only a freshman so they do not expect you to be a polished varsity player. But if you can not take instruction and make adjustments then they really won't want to waste time instructing you.

  3. I am 14 and going to be a freshman also. I play a lot of baseball on high school fields already. My brother just graduated from high school and says that the coaches want to see is hitting. Of course they want you good at defense but they really want to see your offense. I would mainly practice on your hitting. They are also looking for comitment. My brother got the MVP award mainly cause of that and he raised his batting average from a lot.

    Good luck to you buddy.

  4. Where i live, your skill is important, and the more well-rounded you are, the better, i was a waaay better hitter than i was a fielder, so i was a DH for most of my JV season, I was good enough at hitting to make Varsity half way through the year, but my fielding wasn't up to par.

Coaches look for commitment aka going to most of or all of the winter or preseason workouts, respecting the other people trying out and later your teammates, and they look to see if you are working hard or not, you get playing time if you work hard, and you try your hardest, i am pretty sure that you can make the team, so find out where your weakest point is, and work on it, i went to a professional hitting trainer, it took me from 1 hit an entire season in Little League, to making the All-Star team 2 years in a row in Babe Ruth and a .470 Average the 2nd year.

    1.Commitment

    2.Work Ethic

    3.Actual Skills

Thats the order they evaluate players, and tryouts vary from school to school, but at my school, we stretched, got warmed up etc. then we ran a 40 yard dash, then we split up between JV and Varsity and had batting practice, then fielding practice, after that they split us up into teams and we scrimmaged the rest of the day, and i made the team

    Good luck to you :)

Oh, and bat lefty, it is a great assett, as well as if you pitch, leftys are valuable in baseball

  5. working on your hitting arm strength and running are all good steps to begin with. i would recommend working on fielding fundamentals. try outs vary from coach to coach so i would say just go and ask the coach what he is looking for in players and go from there. i would be surprised if a coach doesnt tell you what he is looking for and how his try outs go. best of luck to you
