  1. Not to be a wiseguy, but you should read the play and find out. Really. You'll do a much better job in the audition if you know the whole play.

  2. don't listen to what theater doc said. I personally am looking for a main role this year because they are challenging and fun. He is just full of himself.

Ruthie is the youngest female Joad family member (12).  Along with her younger brother Winfield, the two are too young to fully contribute to the well-being of the family, often entertaining each other through various competitions and bickering.  Ruthie is viewed as a barometer of the Joad family situation.  Being a family member, she mirrors the mood of the family, and being a child, her actions usually accentuate its feelings.  Aside from this, the only literal noteworthy contribution she has to the plot is in her betraying the secret of Tom s murdering the policeman during a struggle over a box of Cracker Jacks.  This mirrors the desperate clinginess of the Joad family, fond of the boxcar, a rare pleasant place, and their bit of new affluence; still, they know that their situation will not last forever.  Her actions also force the final sacrifice and adaptation of Ma, who accepts the need for Tom to leave.

Ruthie, she jus  nibbled an  nibbled, an  wouldn  give  em none one kid grabbed her Cracker Jack box one big girl up an  licked her an  then, Ruthie said our brother already kil t two fellas  (Steinbeck 563).

  3. It seems to me that Theatre Doc is wayyy correct, and this has NOTHING to do with being full of one's self.

To fully understand the character you're trying out for you need to know the play...do you know who the character is at all? without knowing who the character is you could end up sounding like the wicked step mother from cinderella when youre supposed to be a sweet person...

I dont have a problem with you trying out for a main role, but you might have a better chance to get into the play if you try out for all of them

  4. you should read the play before you tryout for it. that would answer all your questions.  Why tryout for just one part? Tryout for all the parts.  What are you some kind of prima donna?
