1. Get use to the terms and positions. Learn from the older girls but also show them what you got! Don't be embarrassed because most of those who play good probably started worse than you. Buy a volleyball and start bumping and setting. :]

  2. Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Give it all you got!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    And don't give up!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been in this position and that is what worked for me!!!!!!!!!

    Hope it helps you

  3. Never ever sit on the ball.Don't fold your hands.Don't hit it hard.

  4. Just try as hard az u can.it doesnt matter how old u r just how hard you try and how good you do. Just try as hard as you can to do it and work on everything so practice a little before JUST DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. you just need to pratice hitting the ball and keeping the ball in control and that is about all you really need to know

  6. do your best and try not to freak out. Have fun with it and try to act like its you playing w/ family or friends. Practice before and after tryouts to kind of make sure you are ok

  7. 1. really act like u want to be there and injoy the sport

    2. try ur hardest

3.don't try and show off, just go at ur rate....I'v had expeiences wit that(doing stuff that u cant do at try outs that u absolutly cant do , may make u look like a fool)

    4. practice lots at home!

5.never have a bad additude during practice, put effert into it

  8. I think that what coaches are looking for can be summed up like this.

    1. Effort- how hard you try

    2. Skill- how good you are

    3. Attitude- how positive you are

You can have two of the three without ever having played before. Obviously you need to try hard, but having a positive attitude is just as important. So do one and three, and two will come in time.

  9. I made it on varsity this year so mabey I can give you some tips on how to make the team.

           1. be noticed- make sure you talk alot

for example- say mine when the ball is coming to you

           2. keep a positive attitude all the time

cheer on your teammates even when they do something bad

           3. prove that you are coachable

don't act like you know everything and stick your nose in the air

I knew a person who was really good but she had a bad attitude

                                 and she was not picked

make them want you have them on your team. First year of highschool, all you have to do is talk, stay positive, be coachable, and show that you have a little skill they can work with. If you follow these steps, you most likely will make the team. See if you can get a volleyball to play with- good luck girl and just remember what i told you. It works. Good Luck!!

  10. If you play softball, you are likely to have the hand-eye coordination for volleyball.

Assuming you have a volleyball or access to one, start by bumping the ball to yourself. The most important part, at this stage, is to have 'good hands.' Make a fist with your weaker hand (left if you are a righty) placing your knuckles vertically; slide your thumb over the end of your fist instead of around your closed fingers.

Now extend your thumb and flatten the area where your thumb connects to your hand - this is about where you will want the ball to land. (You will actually bump the ball with your wrists and lower arms.) Cup your other hand around your fist placing your thumbs side-by-side; again extend your thumbs to flatten the surface area where we want the ball to land. Eventually you will learn to do this by just putting your thumbs together but...in good time.

Second most important thing at this stage: Don't hit at the ball when it comes toward you. Merely slide your arms up to meet it with your elbows completely extended. This motion is no more than three to five inches and will actually become less the more competitive you get because the force/speed of the volleyball coming toward you.

Practive bumping the ball up in front of you; then to a friend. You will want to be able to, eventually, bump the ball about 10 to 20 feet away but start w/ bumping it to your self then to a friend a few feet away then expand your range as your accuracy improves. Accuracy is everything in volleyball - similar to softball. If you do not have someone who can bump with you, use a wall and simply go higher and higher on the wall to equate for the distance.

Now let's work on serving: Do NOT try overhand serves, yet. You will get there but you have to get it over the net and in-bounds first. Hold the ball with your weak hand (left for righties). But hold it to the left of the ball leaving room for you to swing your fist, palm up and thumb across the top just like above, through the ball. This is similar to a football player kicking a field goal; i.e. do not throw the ball up and try to hit it. Swing your fist through the ball while holding it.

I hope this helps! One last thing, you want your feet square or on both sides of the ball and angled toward the location you want to bump the ball to; i.e. do not move your arms to hit a ball move your feet to position your body to bump the ball...whenever possible. When it is not possible, do whatever it takes to hit the ball up in the air to give your setter or a second person a chance to get to it. The higher the better but don't kill it.
