I have a '97 chevy 1/2 ton truck with a 350 cu in engine and I have a set of gauges. I can't find any charts with the info I need about the high and low side pressures. What psi do I need have when the ambient temp is between 90 and 100 degrees?

  1. It is so common to refill this system, but if the pressure is low,IT'S LEAKING!! manmade so it is not perfect. all units leakdown, some now others later. if this is just a normal  low pressure you can just top it off.

NOW IF THE SYSTEM IS LEAKED OUT OR HAS BEEN OPENED, YOUR QUESTION ALREADY TELLS  ME YOU  LACK       THE EXPERIENCE TO CONTINUE!! DANGER!!!

I reccomend 45-48 psi on the low pressure side. if the system is empty it's time to vacuum the system after sealing the leak and of course, oil and leak detecter just to start.

  2. The pressures you're looking for are 35-45 psi on the low side and 200-225 on the high side.Apparently you already know that temp will have an influence on the pressure, but these will at least give you an idea. Good luck.

  3. contact a chevy dealer, and find out, how many pounds of freon goes into your system.  to much freon is a bad thing for the system.  don't overfill !!!

  4. Are you pulling a vacuum too?  You need to make sure that you get all of the air out of the system, and not just put refrigerant into it.  In addition, you need to make sure that all the leaks are repaired.  Shops add a tiny amount of dye that is sensitive to black light to find the leaks.

  5. steave d is dead on for the pressures and the first guy is right about having to pull a vacuum and also putting a dye in the system so you can tell if you have a leak but you have to have spacial equipment for that not just a set of gages so good luck.
