I always want to have a chicken sandwich...............I need some advice to keep my mind off of them. or another type off vegan food that tastes good. I usually eat green salads or like asian salads. I need some other vegan food that aren't salads. I'm tired of them.

  1. There a million other foods that are vegan and not salads.  Most or all of Amy's burgers are vegan, most italian pastas, rice, beans.  You can make almost any dish by just replacing non vegan ingredients with vegan ones.

  2. There's always mock chicken. I don't know if you can get it in the US or not, but Redwoods here in the UK produce a pretty good faux chicken. It's not exactly the same, but certainly good enough  (especially mixed in with other sandwich ingredients) to keep cravings at bay.

I'm sure you may be able to order something similar where you live. Happy meals!

  3. When I was a veg and had cravings I always reminded myself the cruelty and violence that is done just for that chicken sandwich. Watch meet your meat to remind yourself. Now that I am vegan and know how bad it is and just how sick it is, I don't ever want that c**p in my mouth.

As for other recipes, www.vegweb.com has a lot of great recipes. There are a lot of veg/vegan recipe books out there as well. I never only eat a salad as a meal. If I do, I pile lots of things on the top to make it an ultimate salad.

And since you are a vegetarian, there are a lot of "chicken" substitutes. When I was a vegetarian, I used to get this thing called Quorn and it had chicken cutlet type things. You could probably put between two breads and voila, a chicken sandwich. I no longer eat that quorn stuff because I think it has eggs in them. But since you are vegetarian, it would be a good substitute. ^^

  4. Asuming you are a vegetarian, not vegan, why not some cheese nachos? or you can have tofu stuff (tastes like chicken!)

  5. I have the same issues myself with trying to give up chicken and seafood...........Im determined to do it just gotta find some creative ways and surrond yourself with fellow vegetarians that can help you out with it.Also read The Vegetarian Bible its not just about salads its a good book and it sounds like your just buying into the stereotype that vegetarians only eat salads lol there are much tastier things out there other than salads........

  6. The best way to solve your problem will be to eat the chicken sandwich. While chewing think about what the chicken went through in order to be processed. They cut its head off, drained it of it's blood, and plucked all of its feathers off. Then stare at a picture of an old naked woman and never eat chicken again!

  7. Bleh, salads?! Of course you're feeling bland and drawn to everything and anything else.

I'm vegan and I don't think I've had a salad for a meal since 2005ish. I just pile leafy greens and veggies on my plate with the "good stuff". I don't kid myself, the things that are good for you sure don't taste like it. But with half your plate at dinnertime loaded with steamed veggies, that vegan baked lasagna isn't going to blow you up to the size of a planet.

Honestly just get some good vegan cookbooks. Everything - EVERYTHING! - you like to eat can be made vegan. I make vegan cookies, pies, smoothies and shakes, chilis, curries, pizzas, burgers, hot dogs. They make vegan products you can buy so you can have a hot-dog like stand in that cooks up in 30 seconds, or you can even make your own.

If you like the texture of chicken, maybe you can try vegan chicken patties and nuggets, you can buy them or make them yourself. I've had great success using seitan (wheat gluten - you make it at home using nothing but flour and water and seasoning). Look up recipes for how to make seitan and then apply it to make fried chicken and gravy, chicken nuggets, whatever you like.

Honestly there's just going to be some work you'll have to do on your part. Just like you had to learn how to cook from your mom and dad when you were a kid, you have to learn how to cook but with vegan ingredients instead. It'll be a challenging process but the recipes and cookbooks you'll find will be like good friends in the end. Borrow some from the library, swap recipes with people at Whole Foods, maybe browse online at reader-reviewed recipe sites.

Best of luck, happy cooking, and hope you find plenty of ways to adapt meat-filled recipes into vegan ones!
