I'm trying to find a grommet or machine that will act like a button hole. I don't want to sew a button hole

I want to reinforce a slit in fabric, but don't want to sew a button hole. Does anyone know a grommet machine out there that does oval or rectangular grommets? It is for mass production so sewing a button hole would be too time consuming.

  1. Why don't you just use Heavy duty snaps,

or is it going to be used to thread rope or line through?

  2. If you are going into REAL mass production, buy a dedicated button hole sewing machine.

  3. You would need a specialized machine for that particular shape.  Most grommets are round.  Could you not locate a factory that specializes in sails for boats?  You could find out who makes their machines, (or tent makers) then contact that manufacturer for the modifications you need.

    Good luck.
