His wife battled cancer for a long time and he has $100,000 in medical bills for her that was not covered by insurance. Is there any government assistance or any programs to help him? He's 79 years old and retired and doesn't have much income.

  1. Likey that will be written off.  Those had to be prior to her 65th birthday.  Only if he leaves an estate, would they collect.

Any medical after she reached 65 should have been covered by Medicare.

  2. contact office of the aging, found in your phone book under county social services, you can also go to the cancer society, but there are plenty of programs for this sort of thing, through the government.  Your dear grandpa does not have to suffer through this extra burden at this time in his life.  I am assuming you are in the United States, but if you are outside this country there should be similar programs for you.
