Medications I shouldn't take or anything? This is my first time trying and my first baby. So I'm fairly clueless. :)

  1. You need to know when you are ovulating first. Typically its 14 days prior to the first day of your period. So, if your cycle (length of time between the first days of bleeding) is 29 days, then you are most probably ovulating around day 15.

Several ways to check when you are ovulating.

    1. Cervical Mucus (CM)- clear/eggwhite/sticky/stringy mucus indicates you are ovulating. This makes it easier for the sperm to swim through. Thick white mucus is harder for the sperm to swim through, and so you are not ovulating. One of mother natures little tricks!

    2. Basal Body Temperature (BBT)- checking your temp at the same time every morning, before you get out of bed. Involves charting your temp as well. When you ovulate your temp will frop, then rise. For the dedicated TTC'ers!

    3. Ovulater Prediction Kits (OPK)- Available from chemists. Works similar to pregnancy tests, where you pee on a stick, 2 lines indicates you are ovulating. Usually 5-7 tests on a pack. Start testing a few days before you think you will ovulate, just to be sure.

Your partner needs to build up sperm, and this means not having too much s*x. If he ejaculates everyday, then there are less 'swimmers' and more fluid- like the s***n is less full. Have s*x on the day before you are ovulating the day of ovulation and the day after just to be sure. Thats it.

Deep penetration helps, and stay on your back with your hips elevated for 20 mins after s*x- hey it cant hurt, right?

Spend some time getting to know your body. Watch the signs of ovulation. It will be worth it. I did the CM method and used an OPK and fell pregnant on our first try.

Maybe spend a night somewhere when you are ovulating, or go out for a nice romantic dinner. If money is tight, maybe just grab a bottle of wine! Sometimes when TTC it can become a bit mechanical.

Oh and start taking prenatal vitamins.

    Good luck!

  2. One of the best things that did work for me was the clearblue monitor with the sticks. The first month it worked. Now, it is spendy i thought but after i foundout i thought it was money well spent. I think $200 plus sticks which is like $45. You take the test everyday after your period until you hit your peak and go back to normal and then you stop doing it, you just turn the monitor on ans it will show if it is the day to test or not and then will display how "ready' you are not just yes or no. It is a blessing! Good luck

  3. Go see your gynecologist and let him/her know so they can start you on prenatal vitamins.  Make sure you're eating healthy, and most importantly, DON'T STRESS!!  Stress can halt your intentions.  Have fun with it and don't make it a chore.

  4. As far as trying to get pregnant, stay away from Advil, and any Ibuprofen type pain relievers. They can interfere with ovulation in some women. Stick to Tylenol. (acetaminophen) Ask your Dr. or pharmacist about any prescription drugs you are taking, and let them know you're trying before writing you any prescriptions. Good luck in your TTC journey!
