  1. I tried to put on some lean muscle on to my skinny frame last year. I'll tell you from experience and information I've gathered over time.

1 To stay motivated I would advise you to have someone, preferably a friend, to help encourage and workout with you when you don't feel up to it. Arrange your times with this person. Listen to some music. Every time you go to the gym see it as a challenge to work hard to achieve what you want. Feel the satisfaction as your body changes. Do other things in life that you enjoy which will help you be optimistic

2 RESISTING TEMPTATION. When feeling the urge to indulge you might want to replace  with fruit or a protein drinkt to satisfy your hunger or craving; chew gum, drink a glass of water.

Keep busy and avoid being anxious about things. If you have real difficulty you might want to set a day of the week where you can eat what you really like.

Restrictive diets don't work if you don't enjoy your food. Perhaps you can add an hour of aerobic exercise to you routine to make up for it.

3 To build yourself up it is important that your change you workout in terms of exercise, reps, sets, and days worked for muscle groups. Also change your eating habits once in a while to more/fewer calories.

If you don't gain muscle then eat more  carbs, protein, and fats in the right proportion. I go for 50-60% carbs, 20% protein, and 20% healthy fats from total calorie intake. This depends on your weight, body fat, and goals. Usually this is a good guide.
