and for some reason I'm not getting any sound from my speakers. I'm currently hooking up a RCA RP8078(5 disc CD changer) to Pioneer VSXD498(A/V Mutli Channel Receiver). As far as I can tell, everything is hooked up correctly. I have a total of 5 Speakers. Two front speakers, two surround speakers and one center speaker. Does anyone have any suggestions of anything I can try? Also, the two front speakers have blue/gray wires and red/black wires. Anyone know which one is positive/negative?

Help Please!!!

thanks

  1. I agree with what he said ^^

PLUS - check for a button labeled "Tape Mon", "Tape 2" or "Processor"

those send sound to an external processor or tape monitor.  If there is nothing on that input, it will defeat all sound

Look for a speaker selector - you should be on speaker A

regarding what color whire goes where.  It does not matter, as long as you are consistant.  If you make a red wire positive, make it positive everywhere.  If you make it negative, make it negative everywhere.  Wire itself has no polarity, its color coded so we dont s***w up :)

  2. That could be anything. So I'm seriously shooting in the dark on this. If that is some sort of a digital surround sound receiver, make sure that the CD player input is set to analog. If that is not the problem, make sure that you have switched on the speakers. On some receivers, that is hidden in an archaic menu function.  as far as the wiring is concerned, black colored wires should go to the black (negative) connections on the receiver and the speakers.  My guess is that blue/grey combination is for the center channel speaker or perhaps for the rears. In that case, match up the grey wire with the grey or black (negative) on the speaker and the blue (positve) to whatever is positive on the receiver. The color coding is confusing these days.
