Question:

I'm trying to hook up to our wireless network. No one seems to know the encryption key. What do I do?

When you first set up a wireless network and put in the encryption key, there's a box to check which says: "Make the character visible." It's not there after the wireless network is set up. Help!

  1. reset the wireless access point/router. there shoudl be a "reset button". this will reset to default username and password. log in and put in a new key.

  2. I know for mine you have to use a computer connected to the network to "log in" to your router.

I do this by finding my IP address for the computer. Start->Settings->Control Panel->Network Connections, click on your network and then on the support tab. Your IP address should be on this page.

Next I can take this IP address and put it in the address box of windows explorer (the place that usualy has ""www.------.com"), changing the last number to a 1. Example:If my IP is 192.168.2.4 type in 192.168.2.1, this logs me into my router.

From there I go to Wireless->Security  to find my 26 digit WEP code needed to join the network. I don't know if this will help, but it works for me. I use a Belkin Wireless Router.

  3. reset the router, or change the key

  4. if you don't know the key, you'll have to reset your router back to the factory defaults and then set everything back up again (and remember you password key this time) :-)

to reset your router, there should be a small hole on the back of it.  Just use a paperclip to press on it and hold it in for about 10-20 second.  This should reset your router back to the factory defaults and you'll now be able to set it up just like it came out of the box when you first bought it.
